I won't claim to know the exact reasons. But SMLR is ripping. +10% today.

I bought some silver with bitcoin years ago when it was around $2500ish and kick myself whenever I think about it as these 1oz silver coins ended up costing me a fortune! I can see the same thing happening with a burger, fries and drink costing you hundreds 5-10 years from now.

$107,447 currently...we might see a new ATH high here this week and perhaps even today?

Saw it hit $109, 200 just short of the ATH but has not broken through yet...seems to be just a matter of time.

              $109K

That's always going to be the deal, I think. If BTC goes to $150K, I would seriously consider cashing out 2 BTC ($300K) and buying a new house. Pay cash, full price. You can get a nice little brand new 3 bedroom house in a nice neighborhood for about $250K where I live. (The leftover $50K will go to Uncle Sam). OTOH, if BTC eventually goes to $1M per coin, that means I paid $2M for a nice little 3 bedroom house. Ouch. The other way to look at it is that perhaps I originally I bought the BTC for $5K/coin so the house really only cost me $10K.

It's kind of a forever dilemma.

Arky, I have had enough to pay off my mortgage for years now but my rationale not to has always been that I think I can make more in investments than the mortgage interest rate(2.85%). It has worked out but the older I get and the more I think about it, maybe there are other factors to consider other than just the numbers? Peace of mind, not owing anyone a dime and ridding myself of any monthly payments sounds pretty damn good the more I think about it. I'd have to sell around 30% of my crypto to squash my mortgage and have been seriously considering the past few months.

Jake, if you think about selling off a portion of BTC, let me know. I'll buy it, no lie.

But I do see your point. Selling off for something tangible is reasonable. Does make sense to split your risk, things don't go up forever.

Yeah, everyone's situation is different. I got laid off several years ago and the first thing I did was go into my 401K and finished paying off my house. I was on 30 year mortgage and paid it off in 15. I always paid in extra every month until I spent the final $50K to pay it all off. That was an enormous burden to be lifted so then I only had to take care of monthly utilities, maintenance, yearly taxes, etc. I figured out how to turn a hobby - antique phone restoration - into a business to keep the monthly bills paid.

I'm all for decentralizing one's life. Get rid of all debt if possible (house/auto). Toss the credit cards. Use crypto, cash, check or debit card. IMO, banks are a necessary evil to function in today's life. I keep as little as possible in the bank. Be your own bank.

Not ready to live out in the boonies and live on solar, grow my own food, have chickens and a couple of cows but a younger me might have considered it. Younger me was too busy partying.

                    -----------------------------------------

Looks like BTC wicked up to $110K+......
