For the bitcoin only books, Nitrogen and Betcoin don't ask for any information. There are more but not all others are trustworthy.

as far as purchasing you do have options like localbitcoins(I recommend) that does not ask for SS# or ATM if you have any in your area. But for privacy comes a higher fees about 6% on average...I cant remember if gemini asked SS# when i joined they are my top rated place in USA but will take 4 business days to release
