Coinbase buy price much higher than sell price

When I logon to my dashboard it says current rate is 1589. I bought some coins and the rate it gave me was 1596. I canceled and went back to the dashboard, which was still 1589.

I needed the coins so I went to buy and sure enough it's 1596. I buy (instant with debit). I then go to the sell page just to see the price.. 1580! No matter how many times I go back and forth, its making me buy at 1596 and sell at 1580, even though the rate on the dashboard is 1589...is there something I'm missing???

Yeah, if you trade directly through coinbase they rip you off. Their main exchange is called gdax. Here's the link: https://www.gdax.com/trade/BTC-USD
You can buy and sell your btc there for the true market value. You can send your btc or usd back and forth between coinbase and gdax instantly.

They charge a premium to do the exchange for you. I think it's under 0.5% though, which is very reasonable.

If you dont want to pay for the service you need to use a trading exchange and do it yourself on the open market.

I'll have to try using gdax. It's bad enough I'm paying 4% for using a debit card, and then my bank charging me 3% international fee...i wonder if I'd get charged the foreign fee if I use bank account instead of debit

Ive been using coinbase to withdraw from betcris back and forth , avg fee is like 2%. Never using it again
