Best Bitcoin wallet that accepts AUD

Okay I'm a complete virgin at opening a bitcoin account.

I wanted to open an account with Coinbase but they're not interested in my Australian dollars.

Yes I've done a google search and looked around but obviously there are varying degrees of trustworthy sites and I have zero experience with any of them.

Any recommendations from long term users for a reputable site with competitive exchange rates?

I've bought from buyabitcoin.com.au once but it worked out more expensive than converting AUD->USD by time funds were in the book.
