Recover looks long and hard but he's definitely fighting and pulling through!
I look at this thread almost every day for updates. Keep fighting big day. I don't know you in real life but as far as internet acquaintances go you always seemed like one of the best guys on any forum with your videos and positive vibes. I look forward to the day you beat this and are back posting.
Awesome Caring Bridge Update! Stealthy, you’re up! Work your magic!

H3 D3
Journal entry by Mindy McBride — 1 hour ago
Each and every post I debate on how to title it, today I decided H3 D3 which means Hospital 3 Day 3.
Yesterday, Andy had a blue die test. The objective was to find out if Andy was aspirating, the test in fact did find that he was. Today the team decided to change his trach to a Bivona which is smaller and they thought it would be a better fit for Andy. During speech this morning they did another blue die test to see if he was aspirating with his new trach... and so far things look really good! They then decided he could have a speaking valve on. It is so fun to understand him better. A couple quotes I MUST share are: That mosquito must have been 7 feet tall! and I sound like a monster. He also told his RT that she ruled and that she is good at reading lips and I am not. He shared a voice message with a couple of friends: hey guys, nice fish! We did hear some words when at Regions during his speech time as well but today he got to keep his speaking valve on since he was doing so well! We are working on strengthening his lungs and making sure he is increasing his volume when talking and keeping his valve on longer!
Today he worked hard with OT and PT as well! In PT he was able to hold his neck longer and did some moving/looking side to side. I mean this man is dedicated and amazing. While filling out 'About Me' poster one of the questions was, what makes you happy? He said, Mindy Babe, kids and fishing. When I asked what makes him frustrated he said, picking up dog poop and when the fridge doesn't have beer. I mean I don't want to brag but I think his cognition is there!!! WOW!
Dear God, we thank you for the support and the strides that Andy is making while battling this West Nile. Lord we ask that you please continue to help strengthen Andy's voice so that he is able to advocate for himself and to strengthen his muscles so he can reach his goal of walking. Lord, we walk with you in this journey and are grateful for your guidance along the way. We ask this in Jesus' name, Amen.

With love,
Mindy

Hey guys! Sorry I have been absent, I couldn't login at the last hospital and now I am home (YEAH for the 3rd night in my home and bed!!!) I am so excited at the wit and comments Andy (Bigday) has had. It means he knows who I am and that he is still there cognitively!!! Thank God! It will be a very long journey and we will have to adapt our home but we hope he will be home by Christmas! Our two girls still have not seen him. I told our youngest (6) that he lost his voice when he was so sick and he is working on getting his voice back.
Thank you all for your support, well wishes, prayers, etc. You all are amazing!
keep on keeping on
He has come this far already. It will only get better from now till he is back at full. This will only make your family stronger and closer than you already were!
