saratoga

R7 #11 more or less (12-1)

first time starter ships in from laurel.. steady works, decent trainer and solid hometown jock comes along.. cost $125k and pedigree excellent win early and turf.. up for $75k doesn't concern me with the purses and prestige of winning up there.. plus a significant drop-off in competition even at that high tag vs msw competition

R10 #3 going to temple (8-1)
R10 #7 trans mississippi (30-1) half unit

discussed this race last night in louisvillekid's thread

I don't play (not able to financially).. even if I did it would only be small.. I just enjoy capping and the forum gives me a place to share my opinion.. if I did it would be mostly simple win and place.. think the pick 5 is an excellent bet but I enjoy picking my spots more and don't want to get to involved with races I don't like just because they're in the sequence.. should pass on more races than I do(posting) ...without getting too long winded as I've discussed in here before I think playing longshot underneath in supers and tris a good strategy.. that's where they're going to wind up most of the time if they run well.. cover with the top 2-5 horses in 1st an 2nd depending how you feel about the race.. I feel they pay more than they should over the long haul.. use steve crist's formula for calculating the fair payoffs based on odds

JBEX, although it is none of my business, I really don't understand why you don't play for real. I know that you mentioned you are not able to financially, but you can build up your bank roll with small bets. I am not a high roller, but I still enjoy placing a bet here and there where I see fit. You have so many angles that you like and that you feel you have an advantage over other players. So, why not use it to make some money?? I know you are not worse than me. If I can make a few dollars playing the ponies, I definitely think you can too. Why spend all these time figuring out what angles work and what doesn't?? The Horse Tourney site is excellent for building your bankroll. $12 buy in to win potentially $1000. EZ showed me this and I think it is excellent. With your knowledge in the game, I have no doubt you can have an immediate impact and win some prices. I am not asking to prove yourself, but as a fellow handicapper, I think it is such a waste and not to take advantage of your expertise. At the end of the day, the greatest reward is horse handicapping is still the monetary gain. Just think about it, HT may be worthwhile and even $2 WP bet can build up your roll, then you can move forward from there. That is my two cents. GL.

first of all thanks for the compliment mrgnt..really don't know where I fall in the pecking order of how good but have put a lot of time into it going back over 40 years..I like the tournament concept mainly because of the low vig and from what I gather low entry fees..my only knock is having to play designated races whether it be a whole card or just parts of others..like to pick my spots although on some days I do play too many..I believe this reality applies though..if you're a really good tourney player maybe you have a 10% edge over time..so if I play at the $10 level and play the whole card which includes races I don't like on average i'll make a dollar a day for my efforts..and that's if I am good, maybe i'm not..and I could only play two a week tops..just doesn't make sense to me..as far as making small bets a similar reality applies..you can only do so much with small volume..not discouraging others just how I feel..I was a compulsive gambler for many decades ..horses,sports..never lliked casinos..I've been in control for close to 15 years now and not even tempted to get out of hand..with either of the above my main joy was the process rather than the money..no information (pp's ,newsletters) no betting..I never bet just for entertainment ..I enjoy just freestyling on here and giving my opinion ..maybe no one follows or lots follow or somewhere in between..whatever the case it's kept me more interested in the game than I would be without it..as I said the joy is in the process for me..don't miss the betting..bol with your bank and tourneys

play and pick interchangeable..always mean pick

Sounds like JBEX you are all in or all out as for as gambling goes. Your call for what works best for you. I understand you have lost your fair share when playing this great game. Now you just post. No worries. I have also a losing playing, and that is why I value the SBR point system. Keeps some skin in the game without getting hurt coin wise. I also play Horse Tourneys which is legal in my state, and can play for as little as $3 for an eight race contest. Again some skin in the game. But sounds like you have waved the white flag in trying to beat the basically for most unbeatable game. GL moving forward.
