In a Surprise (49ers Coach)

Nothing done yet and it's not a surprise if it happens. It appears as thought they are going that way but just not official.

49ers want a guy who's gonna be all about the players and want no part of front office input. It was clear that they didn't want Fangio as their guy and Fangio made it clear that he was gonna ask out of his contract if they hired a younger coach (Tomasula or Gase). So at this point they are resigned to losing Fangio unless they hire M. Shannahan which they don't want to do.

Good story for Tomasula if it happens. Has been the D line coach since 07 I believe.

Wouldn't make any sense for Gase to leave Denver. He's got a much better situation there.

Much of this is about egos. Moving to the anti-Harbaugh. A guy with no apparent ego who is all about the players. And guys with huge egos (J York and Baalke) who want total control.

Excellent summary. They wanted a company man that wasn't going to ask for the money that Gase was seeking to leave Denver. Now that they've gotten the new stadium built get ready for budget cuts for the players and coaching staff alike. Then when Tomsula fails Jed can blame him instead of his poor ownership. York is about profit above all, including winning.
