Jim Johnson has been nothing short of awful this year he will be lucky if they don't send him straight down to the minors.

Bring back Dennis Eckersley
Johnson may get back to closing soon.
Luke Gregerson blew his second save of the season by coughing up a ninth inning run Wednesday in a loss to the Angels.
Nursing a 4-3 lead, Gregerson was brought on to finish things out against the top of Los Angeles' lineup. He didn't have trouble with J.B. Shuck, but consecutive singles put Mike Trout on third and Albert Pujols on first. Howie Kendrick's fielder's choice tied the game before Gregerson was able to escape. Gregerson and Sean Doolittle, the committee appointed to replace Jim Johnson, have both blown saves in the past few days, and Johnson is pitching well again, so one wonders if Bob Melvin is going to get the $10 million man back into the ninth inning the next time Oakland has a save opportunity. It isn't like Gregerson has been bad or anything. He owns a 1.86 ERA and 0.83 WHIP and hadn't given up a run since April 2 prior to this evening.

Johnson has always been on borrowed time. He's a good situational RP, maybe not so much a closer. May be able to get by on guile though. He's lucky Ryan Cook was hurt...otherwise Cook would probably be closing the door the remainder of the season.
Sounds more like a race car driver.
sounds like JJ hoover
Halos were hammering line drive after line drive off this Gregerson yesterday. Seems like this guy just doesnt have it mentally for this job. Too many mistake pitches over the plate...
Oakland is a solid team, well coached, doesnt beat themselves. Hopefully they will find reliable arm for last 3 outs.
Punto and Sogard are the only 2 easy outs in the line-up.
I think Dan Otero and Drew Palmeranz look pretty good.
Gregorson is a ground ball guy. He doesnt really have swing and miss stuff which is what you need to be a closer.
They should have never let Balfour get away.
I am surprised it has not happened already as it has been over a week since the last speculation was posted. This was posted last night:
Athletics manager Bob Melvin said Thursday that Jim Johnson could be back in the ninth inning mix along with Luke Gregerson and Sean Doolittle.
Johnson was stripped of his closer duties two weeks ago but has responded with 6 2/3 scoreless innings since then. Gregerson and Doolittle, meanwhile, have allowed a combined six runs over their last six appearances. Melvin also noted that while he likes the way Ryan Cook has pitched lately, Cook is expected to remain in a setup role for now.

This isn't surprising since Doolittle and Gregerson stunk it up in the closer role. May as well make it easy and have Johnson back in it for round 2.
I don't know why they got him after he was so shaky last season.
Didn't want to start a new thread but he's out there adding to his ERA again. He's actually getting worse which is almost impossible.
Damn funs over: No outs, 4 hits 2ER with two still on base.
