Took my points and hit 3 UFC Winners. Missed out hitting Condit, since SBR took down the lines. Finally hit a goal. Just took me 5 attempts.
Thank you Pour, Spider and Fanatic for points since the last update. Big help in me reaching this goal. I'm still grinding away. The number keeps looking better and better. I haven't been as successful as I would have liked, but I'm up to 50% on my year goal. This is going to be paid this year and I'm going to finally pull off a huge payout that shouldn't have ever happened. Thanks again for all those who have been donating this year.

My goal starting out the year was to finish paying this off by July 31st. I have 29 days to pull of 3126 points. Wasn't having any luck with UFC this year to hurt the progression. Picked out a few winners yesterday though to grind out a few points from the past days.
Cookie Monster is in the home stretch with 60 points owed and then just giving the last points to Thad.

A post I wrote in Oct 22th, 2011.
I am the 2nd biggest balance here, and have a few words to say, but wanted to let pass a little time.
This is not the first time that a pointsbook falls. A couple of years ago, williams22 book failed in a similar way. He claimed one of his roommates placed max bets at SBR book with his account thinking it was funny money, and was left without funds to pay customers. The dynamics then were the same: Many small bettors crying as loud as they can, claiming fraud, etc. OTOH most big guys took it with philosophy. At the end, the wealthiest points guy on the realm loaned Williams the funds with very low interest, to let him cover all balances. Eventually Williams paid the loan in full (and a few months later suddenly disappeared leaving a few unpaid loans, as yisman can attest).
About Mex book, it is exactly the same as any failed business. A guy puts all his savings into starting a new venture. After a few months, he cannot make the ends meet. He stubbornly tries to get the business for a little more time, hoping things will go better. At some point, he must acknowledge he is broke. Then the creditors will line up for payment. Some would sympathize with the owner, some other would like to kill him. At the end, the guy is devastated, lost all his life savings and still some people wants his head. chemicalbrother put eloquently the thinking of the guy in last weeks before closing down, agonizing on many decisions trying to keep the business afloat. I really hope he is never in that situation.
So, Mex book is broke. What to do next? A few random thoughts:
1.- The possibility of Mex paying cash to kill the debt is zero. Even if he wanted to, SBR would never allow it. This is a very visible case, and could bite SBR in a lawsuit.
2..- MexStallion should be allowed to keep a small amount of points to make them produce. Maybe a small loan bank, which is profitable (given that he does not have Carseller4 as customer). Also allowing him to take promos (as blackjack), or even betting special lines that are clearly +EV, or at least being a beard-for-rent on these bets. It is it the best interest for everyone to let him produce points. If he can work for Thad book that would be great, but last time I checked it was too deep in red
3.- The guys saying that Mex should have warned about his situation are delusional. Such warning would warrant a run against his funds, making things even worse. Maybe he tried to stay on business for too long, but no one could have foreseen such a bad streak.
4.- What went wrong on Mex book? Hard to say for sure. I know he was too generous with bonuses. Allowing low-juice prices while giving such bonuses is like trying to undersell WalMart. The post format is open for abuse, allowing any user to steam him, or even misquote any price. He gave also the benefit of the doubt to the customer, maybe to a fault. There is a reason why 5Dimes Tony is such a prick with angle shooters. Mex tried to be nice, gave bonuses, low-juice prices and great service. At the end it did not work.
5.- If there is to be a differentiation between "real deposited - withdrawn points" vs "current balances", the accounting should start with the first deposit, not with the last bust as currently done. The reason is clear: Any poster may deposit, bust, deposit, bust, deposit and only then get hot. As Mex posted it, the preferential amount is only the last deposit, not the total deposited amount.
6.- Lastly, calm down, lynching mob. You are owed a few tens of dollars, maybe a bit over a hundred. It is worth barely a few hours of work, it does not deserve such a harsh treatment. Mex is doing his best to pay everyone, even if it takes 3+ years. Cut him some slack

Nice revisit on the post Cookie Monster. To be an asshole and point it out, I was one of the posters who helped loaned Williams points to get back to the small amounts. I had points and didn't care about them so much then. A lot of spot on notes and correct assumptions. Many posters really helped me out with those Blackjack specials with loans and practically no interest. I definitely did a lot of things wrong back then though. Working on that clean slate.
I did not want to mention then, but the "wealthiest points guy on the realm" that offered a low interest loan to willams22 to pay the book debt was... Mexican Stallion. His book predated the SBR book. He started the SBR credit reports. Mexican Stallion was and still is an asset to SBR forum.
