The New York Rangers and Washington Capitals battle in Game 2 at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday, and we're offering our expert Capitals vs. Rangers player props and predictions based on the best NHL odds

The New York Rangers held serve at home with a 4-1 victory to open their first-round series with the Washington Capitals. It was a trademark Blueshirts performance characterized by tight defensive play akin to Lululemon-like spandex, which led to the Rangers' Stanley Cup odds shortening.

Conversely, the Capitals have struggled to generate offense thus far, which is as predictable as spotting Lululemon pants in a gym. Washington has scored more than two goals just once in its last 12 games ahead of Tuesday's contest, scheduled for 7 p.m. ET at Madison Square Garden and airing on ESPN.

To accompany our Avalanche vs. Jets player props, here are our best Capitals vs. Rangers player props and NHL picks (odds via our best NHL betting sites; Pick confidence is based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Capitals vs. Rangers prop bet predictions for Tuesday

Rangers -1.5 spread ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Capitals will do their best to bounce back from an insipid offensive display in Game 1, but the challenge is enormous considering how dialed-in the Rangers were. New York increased its attention to detail in the defensive end, and Shesterkin can bail out the Rangers on the odd occasion that's required.

The Caps have averaged 1.92 goals per game in their last 12, including an empty-net gimme against the Philadelphia Flyers to get them into the postseason. Alexander Ovechkin didn't muster a shot on goal in the series opener for just the fourth time in 148 playoff contests. While it would be naive to think he won't be out for vengeance, the Caps have repeatedly proven that they score at about the same rate as an acne-riddled teen.

FanDuel rises above the rest of our best sports betting sites for this one, offering +108. That implies a 48.08% probability and pays a $10.80 profit on a winning $10 bet.

Artemi Panarin Over 3.5 shots ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Artemi Panarin has averaged 2.71 shots per game in 58 career postseason contests, but he's playing the most inspired hockey of his career. The 32-year-old's 3.7 shots per contest in the regular season increased to 4.9 during the eight encounters leading up to the playoffs. He improved upon that uptick in Game 1 with seven shots on goal.

While it's unclear whether the Breadman's steep rise is due to adding more yeast pre-game, Panarin deserves a ton of credit for spearheading the Rangers' offense. Look for that to continue in Game 2.

BetMGM offers the best value at -133, albeit marginally. Of the other best sports betting apps, DraftKings follows closely behind at -135. A winning $10 bet at BetMGM pays a profit of $7.52 and implies a 57.08% probability.

Mika Zibanejad Over 0.5 assists ⭐⭐⭐⭐

An apple per game has made Mika Zibanejad hard to tame. The Rangers' center has logged an assist in eight straight matchups dating back to April 5. He's also notched 18 helpers across his previous 28 playoff outings. Zibanejad secured his seemingly mandatory assist on a seeing-eye pass to Chris Kreider late in the third period of Game 1.

It's worth backing the Swede to extend his assist streak to nine games, especially at the +100 odds that BetMGM and DraftKings are offering. A $10 winning bet at DraftKings or BetMGM will pay a $10 profit, and there's a 50% implied probability.
