This matchup is a Western Conference showdown between two of the league's best defenses. Let’s dive right into our Trail Blazers-Mavericks picks.

The Trail Blazers split the first two games of their current six-game road trip and have rattled off three straight wins. That's impressive considering there are multiple players who have been in and out of the rotation due to injuries. The list includes Damian Lillard, Jusuf Nurkic, Anfernee Simons, and Jerami Grant.

Despite their misfortune on the injury front, the Blazers boast the third-best scoring defense in the NBA, yielding 106.6 points per contest. Jerami Grant led the way with 23 points (on just 11 shot attempts) along with eight boards and two steals during the team’s 106-95 win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday night.

Meanwhile, the Mavericks boast the fourth-best scoring defense in the association (allowing 106.7 points per outing). But the team is amid a two-game losing skid.

After recording wins against the Utah Jazz, Toronto Raptors, and Brooklyn Nets, Dallas came up empty on its two-game road trip, losing 94-87 to the Orlando Magic and 113-105 to the Washington Wizards, dropping the Mavs to 6-5 on the season. Luka Doncic was limited to 24 and 22 points, respectively, in the two losses, which is well below his season average of 33.6 points per game.

Here are my NBA picks and predictions for Saturday's game between the Trail Blazers and Mavericks (odds via, BetMGM, PointsBet, and DraftKings Sportsbook; Pick confidence is based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Trail Blazers vs. Mavericks ATS Pick

Trail Blazers +5.5 (-110) ★★★

The last five contests between these two teams have been lopsided while going in favor of the Mavericks, with Dallas winning four. The team's average victory margin was 28.8 points per matchup.

However, here are a few reasons why you want to take the Blazers and the points on Saturday night.

Portland is a perfect 4-0 against the spread over its last four games. The club also holds a 9-1 record ATS against opposing teams who allowed 100-plus points in the previous contest. Dallas gave up 113 points to the Wizards in its last outing.

The Blazers have posted six ATS wins in their last seven affairs, and they're 6-1 ATS over the squad's last seven road games.

Portland boasts an 8-1 mark ATS when its opponent eclipses the century mark in the previous game. The Mavericks scored 105 in their loss to the Wizards.

Trail Blazers vs. Mavericks O/U Pick

Under 216.5 (-110) ★★★

The Blazers and Mavericks are averaging a combined 218 points per contest this season. Also, the Under has hit 10 times over Portland’s last 11 road games.

The Under is 13-3 for Portland when the team scores 100-plus points in its previous game. The Blazers scored 106 in their win over the Pelicans on Nov. 10.

The Under is also 16-5 in Portland’s last 21 games when the opponent scores 100-plus points.

For the Mavs, the Under is 17-4-1 in their previous 22 games against an opponent with a winning record. Portland is 9-3. The Under also holds a 27-7-1 mark in the Mavericks’ last 35 home games when facing a foe with a winning road record.

Trail Blazers vs. Mavericks Prop Bet

Doncic Over 32.5 (-121) ★★★

Doncic is averaging 29.6 points per contest over 13 games against the Blazers. However, he's recorded 35-plus points against Portland in four of the five previous meetings.

The superstar has tallied 35-plus points in seven of Dallas’ 11 games in 2022-23. Furthermore, he's averaging a career-best 33.6 points per contest.
