Sportsbooks Get the Total Wrong in AFC/NFC Pro Bowl
SBR Forum posters were correct in their assessment that the under was the best side to take for the Pro Bowl.
Bookmakers seemed to lay an egg with setting the total points market at a whopping 79 to 81 points. The total hit as high as 82.5 points yesterday afternoon.
The notion was that neither conference would be intent on playing any defense, but it was the offenses which sputtered all game. Several posters added to their position on the under through in-play and second half betting. Despite the slow start which saw only 21 scored in the opening half, bookmakers opened up the second half total points market at 38 points. Just 12 points were scored in the second half.
The AFC won 20-13 as 4 point underdogs and around +170 on the moneyline. The rationale for some SBR Forum posters on selecting the AFC to win was receiving better than plus money on an exhibition game, which essentially was seen as getting better than a positive return on flipping a coin.
With the Pro Bowl now done and over with, the attention for NFL handicappers turns to Super Bowl 51 between the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons. Betting sites have not moved off of -3 in favor of New England as of yet.
