There were some big winners and losers in terms of the wagering markets on offer for betting the Oscars, including an upset with the best picture award.

Bettors who risked $100 to win $225 are happy campers as Spotlight upset favorite The Revenant for best picture honors (-225).

Best Actor in Leading Role: Leonardo DiCaprio

Whales who wagered $7,500 to win $100 won easily as the red carpet buzz and pre-event chatter all pointed to DiCaprio winning his first Oscar for his performance in The Revenant. The other nominees all returned +1500 or greater at most online sportsbooks.

Best Actress in a Leading Role: Brie Larson

Larson won easily as heavy chalk which saw bettors have to put up $3,000 to walk away with $100 for her role in Room, beating the likes of Saoirse Ronan (+1300), Jennifer Lawrence (+1600), Cate Blanchett (+1600), and Charlotte Rampling (+6600).

Best Actor in a Supporting Role: Mark Rylance

Rocky Balboa fans can't be too happy as the chalk in Sylvester Stallone for his role in Creed lost as a -425 favorite. Mark Rylance bettors cashed in for his performance in Bridge of Spies.

Best Actress in a Supporting Role: Alicia Vikander
Closing line: -265

The favorite struck again with Alicia Vikander winning her first Oscar for her role in The Danish Girl, beating Rooney Mara (+325), Kate Winslet (+350), Jennifer Jason Leigh (+3300), and Rachel McAdams (+5000).

Best Director: Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu
Closing line: -750
Alejandro Inarritu has won his second best director Oscar in a row (winner last year with Birdman) at -750 odds, beating out Thomas McCarthy for Spotlight (+1400), George Miller for Mad Max Fury Road (+630), Adam McKay for The Big Short (+2000), and Lenny Abrahamson for Room (+5000).

Sweeping most of the early awards was Mad Max Fury Road for best production design (-1200), best sound editing (-210), best sound mixing (-150), and best costume design (+135).
