Canbet’s Rise and Fall as an Online Sportsbook; Canbet downgraded to C

Share with:

Seven years ago Canbet broke into the top ten SBR list of top online sportsbooks. The Australia based operation had been a long-time member of the Top 20 list, widely regarded among off-shore bettors as a solid out that was worthy of being on any player’s short list. Canbet reached a rating as high as A-, earned on May 14th 2005. They maintained that mark impressively for four years.

Then everything changed. Bonus terms were retroactively changed, payouts were delayed, accounts were confiscated, and even winning wagers were canceled. Following IASbet's sale of Canbet on May 13th 2009 to Yin King Investments Ltd., Canbet has only continued its slide of poor management and player relations.

Here are some of the more disturbing unresolved complaints against Canbet. | View full report (written by Lou Moretti)

May 22nd 2009: Canbet cancels 27 correlated NCAA football parlays
Canbet cancels 27 correlated NCAAF parlays the day after the bets were correctly settled in players account. Canbet maintains their software has never accepted correlated parlays where the pointspread exceeds 33% of the total, stating the string of bets were accepted due to ''operator error''. Canbet management has stated that they believe the player was aware of this as he proceeded to bet more than his average stake size and also deposit in larger amounts to take advantage of these plays.

Canbet’s posted rules on correlated players actually make an argument on the player’s behalf:

Canbet:

Any multiple made up of more than one selection from the same event will be deemed a related contingency. i.e. Alan Shearer to score 1st & Newcastle Utd to win; Denver -7.5 pts and Denver to win the game. The only exception to the above is in North American sports where sides and totals can make up a multiple bet. "

The facts: All bets were accepted, and correctly settled the day after the events. Upon the player’s subsequent withdrawal request, all bets with the exception of one losing parlay were graded no action. The player had profited close to $19,000 after making those 27 parlays.

June- August 2009: Canbet and the “shared environment” confiscations; accounts closed & winnings confiscated with no evidence provided
Player comments:  I" had more than 700 on my account. They closed my account and gave me back 200? (amount of the deposit). They said: "A detailed investigation showed that you are linked via shared environments which is against our current policies and procedures." I never used my account in shared environments."

Canbet’s comments:

We have identified this player to be part of a larger bonus abuse group who has joined Canbet with the intent of not using the bonus or any funds in the proper spirit that it was meant to be used. We have done extensive investigations on the group and they have all consistently failed numerous fraud checks on our side. Due to security reasons I am unable to provide you with more information as to what our checks consist of and how we identified them but assure you that we have a full profile on file for this group and will use it to defend ourselves as per our terms and conditions.

The facts: Canbet closed player’s accounts, confiscated profits, and provided no evidence justifying their actions.
Case: Canbet closes player’s account after four winning wagers made; cites shared environments
Player comments: I sign up for Canbet on May 24 and deposited 25 for entitlement to free bet of 25. I made four stakes, I won three of them and my balance became 105.71?. Then, when I tried to access my account, appears "password error". At the time I thought the site should be with the server failure and I didn't cared. After a few days I went back there and had the same error. I talked to an operator via live chat and the answer was:

Canbet comments:

Your account has been closed as a detailed investigation showed that you are linked by shared environments which is against our current policies and procedures.

Player: "In short, Canbet closed my account with no reason, no explanations were decent, they didn't want any documents of mine to prove the validity of my account and I was without 80.71? from 105.71? that I had won... I just returned the initial 25 because I went talking with them. The account had already been closed some days ago and I only returned the 25 after I went there asking why I could not access to my account."

"I also sent them a mail asking why I could not get into my account and they only responded by giving me my pass...  What Canbet is trying to do is steal and the users can not do anything to receive the money they earned legally. Basically, whoever loses is not cancelled your account. Whoever wins, Canbet cancels the account claiming that it is illegal and doesn't show nothing to prove neither accept documents from the user to verify the truthfulness of the account. I hope you can help to recover my money and stop this shame."

The facts: If Canbet decides that you are using a ‘shared environment’ when placing your wagers, your account will be closed, your profits will be lost, and you will never be given an explanation as to how your account is in violation. Shared environment can encompass using an Internet Café, using AOL (where IP’s are recycled), picking up Wifi at a neighbor’s house, the scenarios are limitless. The outcome is the same, Canbet will take action with no questions asked and will refuse to justify their confiscations.

August 2009-present day: CanBet bonus complaints; more arbitrary closing of accounts

August 13th: "I registered at Canbet in March 2009 during their promotion of a 20% bonus on the first deposit. I deposited 950 GBP and in order to receive bonus I wagered my whole deposit once. According to their conditions I had to rollover the amount of the deposit plus bonus 3 times which I did over 6 times. I tried to make withdrawal today but they say that I will forfeit my bonus as I haven't made the rollover."

September 21st: "I registered yesterday on Canbet and deposited 30 euros. They credited 30 euros bonus to the account, which I didn't get to use. I made a 30 euro bet (with my own money) on a football game. I won the bet on Canbet. Today, when i went to check my Canbet account, I couldn't login. I talked to their support and they told me my account was closed because i didn't pass the security checks. I asked why and they didn't want to tell me. Now they have my 30 euros and another 30 from the bet i won and they don't want to give it back."

Summary: If Canbet decides that you are using a ‘shared environment’ when placing your wagers, your account will be closed, your profits will be lost, and you will never be given an explanation as to how your account is in violation. Shared environment can encompass using an Internet Café, using AOL (where IP’s are recycled), picking up Wifi at a neighbor’s house, the scenarios are limitless. The outcome is the same, Canbet will take action with no questions asked and will refuse to justify their confiscations.
