SBR newswoman Natalie provides the latest in the iGaming news industry. In today's video, an update is given on California gambling legislation, Illinois lottery news, as well as the Spanish market licencing — Bwin Party, 888, Bet365, mybet and Sportingbet are the first operators in line. The Spanish market is set to open up officially on Tuesday, June 5th.

Californians are one step closer into a land-based sportsbook. State Senator Roderick Wright—whom SBR interviewed in March—is undoubtedly grinning from ear to ear as the bill he authored permitting gambling businesses to obtain a license and setup shop in California passed 32 to 2. The bill, #SB-1390, is now headed for an assembly vote. We’re hoping to have the Senator back on the program for a follow-up call soon.

The Illinois Senate passed a bill Wednesday allowing Powerball lottery tickets to be purchased online. Governor Pat Quinn is expected to sign the bill into law. On May the 18th, SBR reported that Illinois Senate President John Cullerton introduced an online gambling bill that called for a Division of Internet Gaming to work in conjunction with the State Lottery Department to establish online gambling with licensed entities within Illinois. You may read the bill in full on the SBR newswire.

In other news, EGR reports the first wave of operators have officially been awarded licences to operate in the Spanish market, which is set to open Tuesday. Bwin Party, 888, Bet365, mybet and Sportingbet are among those operators. A full list of operators whose applications were successful will not be made public until June 15th.
