AFC & NFC Championship Betting Consensus Report
The Atlanta Falcons are -5.5 point favorites against the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game taking place Sunday afternoon at 3:05PM ET.
The Falcons opened at -4.5 and have shot up a point, despite a majority of action on the Green Bay Packers to cover the spread.
BetOnline's Dave Mason touched on this discrepancy in a statement given to Sportsbook Review, saying the following: "Even though the public is on the Packers, the Falcons are up to -5 thanks to sharp Atl money. Our biggest sweat of the weekend will be that money line too. About 85% of the bettors are taking the Packers at plus money."
It was a rough start for online sportsbooks to the 2016-17 NFL playoffs with favorites covering the first six games against the spread, capped off with the two lone underdog "upsets" the heavy public sides in the Packers and Steelers during the divisional card round. The loss was not limited to just online betting sites, Las Vegas bookies also got crushed by players according to a report by ESPN's David Purdum.
Across the board averaging the sportsbooks on SBR Odds, 67% are on the Packers to win outright and advance to Super Bowl LI. SBR Forum posters are currently discussing whether the over or under presents the most value for wagering.
The New England Patriots are favored by 6 points against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Championship game at 6:40PM ET. 52% of online sports bettors are wagering on the Patriots to cover the spread. 61% of sports bettors are wagering that the Steelers beat the Patriots outright at the odds of +215. The total opens and remains exactly at 50.5 points with 55% of bets on the under as of this publication.
