A draft of federal legislation that would require states to get approval from the U.S. Attorney General before they implement legal gambling has surfaced in Congress. The bill, drafted by the office of retiring Sen. Orrin Hatch, has come to light seven months after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned PASPA.

The sports betting start-up occurs after a nearly two-month delay from the original planned launch of Oct. 1.

At last week’s U.S. Sports Betting Policy Summit in Washington, D.C., Ohio state Sen. Bill Coley pitched interstate sports betting compacts as one way to combat the international betting market. A bill has been approved by the Ohio state legislature with anticipation a sportsbook will open in 2019.

CG Technology has offered to pay $2 million to the Nevada Gaming Commission to settle major violations, which also are threatening the company’s gaming license. This offer comes after the commission rejected the negotiated settlement of $250,000 CG Technology made with the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

The NHL announced Monday that it will become partners in sports betting with MGM Resorts International, agreeing to a multi-year data sharing and marketing deal. The NHL follows in the footsteps of the NBA, which has a similar agreement with MGM with the difference that the NHL deal isn’t exclusive.

A Topbet (SBR rating F) player has filed a payout complaint. The player claimed that he requested payment of $2,500 in April 2018. He was advised the withdrawal would take a total of 15 to 20 business days, but he has yet to be paid. Topbet Sportsbook is part of the worst sportsbook blacklist. SBR has requested comment.

In a clash of sports betting competitors, William Hill US has filed a lawsuit alleging that FanDuel blatantly plagiarized large parts of its “how to bet” customer manual. In a 12-page copyright infringement lawsuit, filed Oct. 23 in U.S. District Court in New Jersey, William Hill alleges FanDuel outright copied passages word-for-word.

This week, Louisiana lawmakers showed a renewed interest in bringing legalized sports betting to the state known for being the birthplace of jazz, Cajun cuisine and, of course, Mardi Gras. Though legislators rejected a similar bid to expand gambling to Louisiana earlier this year, another proposal may gain traction in 2019.
