Sportsbook advertising budgets retreat for the first time in 2004

SBR surveyed the top 10 sportsbooks and found only 1 that plans to exceed their 2003 advertising budget. This is an abrubt change from past years when marketing budgets regulary increased and sometimes doubled. The top CEO's stated unanimously that lack of profitable venues was mainly to blame. This is actually good news for players. Players should look for a year of healthy bonuses and new and improved loyalty programs at the top books.

SBR proposes minimun standards for player advocate sites to follow in advance of player advocate meeting in Las Vegas

Several sites that originally planned to attend have dropped out. It's no coincidence that these so-called player advocate sites tout slow paying books and wanted no part of any alliance that advocates not accepting advertising from sportsbooks that are dangerous to players. SBR will be offering free advertising and traffic to selected player advocate websites that agree not to promote slow pay and no pay sportsbooks for the entire 2004 football season.

Dimeplayer (SBR rating C-) no longer part of Sportingbet PLC as of 6/24/04. SBR recognizes Dimeplayer as a new sportsbook with a downgrade to C-. There have been no complaints against Dimeplayer or its transition from World Gaming to IQ-L software. SBR will continue to review DP through football season. Their IT Director expects the full implementation of this new website to be completed in 7-10 days. SBR believes this is a very positive move for one of the top sportsbooks in the industry.

Well-respected bookmaker Larry Mac is back in Costa Rica

In a phone conversation with this legendary figure, SBR learned that Larry Mac has entered formal negotiations with BlueGrass Sports (SBR Rating D), regarding the Head Linesman position. Although a definite agreement is yet to be reached, SBR believes Larry Mac’s bookmaking talent and vast experience would be an asset to BlueGrass.

Player receives full payment today from V-Wager (SBR Rating B-). Initial payment was requested on July 1st for a total of $12,000. After V-Wager issued two Neteller payouts for a total of $3150, the player contatced SBR asking for assistance. The remaining $9k payout was split into 2 checks, which were sent via UPS.

The two hottest new gaming software launches delayed again. BetWWTS (SBR rating A+)

which was to launch a version of Victor Chandler's sports betting platform has informed SBR that the launch scheduled for July 12th, is "Delayed indefinitely". There are at least three sportsbooks that heavily invested in this platform including Bowmans (SBR rating A-).
 
Pinnacle Sports (SBR rating A+) much anticipated casino again is delayed. Apparently the casino is live in-house and for a few invited guests. One source from a casino review site who said he had played one session and was sworn to secrecy said "..its ready but I guess they have their reasons(for not going live). Forget about it, it doesn't get any better..."

Cascade (SBR rating D+) At least one source is reporting that Cascade

has a new partner. SBR sources say the deal looks good and will likely close but it's not a done deal yet. Cascade deals to many professional players and has had more than its share of ups and downs. The current BetCascade owner told SBR recently that his operation is in no danger with or without new financial backing and that opinions stated by SBR and others to the contrary are misguided speculation. 

Sportsbook industry player-advocate leaders to meet in Las Vegas

Internet Gaming companies pick up a powerful ally; The U.S. Chamber of Commerce

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, representing over 3 million businesses, writes all 100 US Senators stating their opposition to the current legislation, S. 627, being proposed to slow down internet gaming. In a letter to each senator, the Chamber states "The U.S. Chamber strongly urges you to oppose S. 627 in its current form."
