SBR COSTA RICA OFFICE REPORTS: GrandCentral Sports(SBR rating D+) dba Mybookie proves why private oversight of the offshore sportsbook industry is insufficient to protect players.

05.25.2005

MyBookie forced a player, allegedly by suggesting they may stiff him out of his entire balance, to accept .30 on the dollar, a move that cost the player $85,000. Except for SBR and little known TOW(TheOffshoreWire), none of the so-called player advocate sites have even reported this incredible theft. This is easily the largest sportsbook theft case of 2005. Lawmakers in North America will undoubtedly use this theft as an example of how vulnerable players are to unregulated sportsbooks. SBR has repeatedly called for GCS to pay the player or show cause why he should not be paid. Sources in Costa Rica have told SBR that because the only major website that took up the players’ cause was SBR that GCS felt they got away with minimal backlash.

However, many respected operators here in Costa Rica are disgusted with the forced theft. More than one sportsbook operator has complained publicly and privately that even SBR was not doing enough to pressure this book to settle in full with the player. Operators here recognize that these types of theft will be the beginning of the end for the sportsbook industry.

SBR’s position is clear: Pay the player or show cause as to why $85,000 was confiscated. Failure to do so will result in the possibility of an SBR Scam Warning press release as well as a possible downgrade to the SBR Blacklist.

It is unlikely that players will experience any immediate changes in service. Easybets reportedly was acquired for 5 million in BetonSports Plc shares and $10 million in cash.

Gibraltar (SBR rating C-) partially reverses decision to confiscate bonus funds and winnings. Management has agreed to pay the player $427 he won from the free-play portion of his signup bonus. Ownership is unwilling to reinstate the 10% cash bonus portion of the signup incentive, citing that the player was not a customer for the required 30 days. This decision was made despite the fact that Gibraltar removed the player against his will. Players who have recently accepted a signup bonus at Gibraltar may benefit from leaving their account dormant for one month.

Gibraltar (SBR rating C) confiscates customer funds. The book decided they no longer desired a player’s business and agreed to pay him in full. When he received his Neteller withdrawal he found that his bonus, and winnings derived from his free-play bonus, had been deducted. The player exceeded his roll-over requirement, yet Gibraltar kept a total of $577 that was previously included in his account balance.

“In the conversation, I was told that I will receive my full account balance, minus the $30 fee for neteller withdrawal, within the day. When I received my funds from Neteller, I realized that they’ve deducted $607.5 from my account ($150 initial deposit bonus + $427.5 won on freeplay + $30 withdrawal fee). I called them and I was referred to “Andrew" who is the manager. He told me that they do not want my action and they have the right to confiscate that money and he would not need to give me any more explanation on that because they are operating a business and it is their right to deduct my winnings from my free-play as well as the initial deposit bonus. No appropriate reasons were given. He also mentioned that I’ve won some money with them and they’ve paid me." -L.C

Sister sportsbook BettorsTrust (SBR rating D+) was also guilty of this same action last month. However, management promptly reversed this decision when SBR inquired on the player’s behalf. Players must be able to count bonus monies as part of their account balance when wagering requirements have been legitimately met. SBR to once again inquire with management.

SBR COSTA RICA OFFICE: MyBookie (SBR rating D+)

05.15.2005

Sources here in Costa Rica tell SBR that MyBookie management is elated that there has been minimal backlash from the revelation that they shortchanged a player for $85,000. MyBookie pays in advance an advertising fee to all the major watchdogs and so far that has proven to be money well spent. None of the major watchdogs have even mentioned the incident much less demanded that MyBookie pay the player. Players should be warned that a lucky streak at MyBookie could well produce an offer to settle for .30 cents on every dollar won.

SBR comments on recent Upgrades and Downgrades:

05.14.2005
Problem plagued FutureBet books such as SportsbookUSA earn an upgrade off the Black List to D-. This is an improving situation but still a high risk.

Mansion raised from C to B-. This upgrade highlights our confidence in Mansion management.

MajorBetting raised from D+ to C-. The unusual and increasing rating spread between MajorBetting at C- and their management company, BetRoyal rating of D, highlights SBR’s opinion that players are actually safer playing at the managed book.

Internet1x2 lowered to F-. We continue to work with players to get them paid. Unfortunately it appears that we no longer can be an effective intermediary as the book shows no concern for the continuing No-Pays.

Canbet upgraded from B+ to A-. It was January 26, 2004 when Canbet was last an ’A’ rated book. IAS, the parent comapnay, has worked hard to improve their product and player feedback clearly indicates they are making strong progress.

SportsbookUSA (SBR rating D-) and multiple sister Futurebet sportsbooks exit SBR’s Blacklist. Although the company’s withdrawals are severely delayed, an F rating is no longer justified. Management tells SBR that SportsbookUSA will pick up the tab for other Futurebet sites that can not meet their obligation as was the case with Oceansbet (SBR rating F-). It should be noted that all Futurebet books are requiring at least two weeks to process Neteller payouts.

Player files no-pay complaint against Interactive Gaming System’s (IGS) WorldCasinoSportsBets (SBR rating F+). WCSB has owed the player $1200 since October of 2004. No managing company takes less responsibility for player funds and services more scam operations than IGS. It takes as little as $15,000 for an individual to erect his or her own scam-sportsbook. Players should avoid this group which is also known as PlayerCenter.
