Betting site InstantActionSports yet to comment on payout dispute

09.16.2014

InstantActionSports (SBR rating D+) is slow-paying a player who requested a $5,000 withdrawal on July 14. The player had initially requested an interbook transfer as reported by SBR last week, however, InstantActionSports does not actually conduct transfers with the sportsbook in question. The player has been given no updates from IAS; the betting site has also declined to speak with Sportsbook Review concerning the withdrawal. InstantActionSports had their rating lowered to D+ and may face entry into the blacklist pending the resolution of the complaint.

SBR user "las8" is off to a hot start in the free $20,000 NFL and NCAAF betting contest. las8 is 10-0-0 after the first two weeks of play, pocketing nearly 3,000 points and is five picks away from winning a brand new iPad. The contest — dubbed the BTP betting contest — is the biggest contest SBR runs each year, and is the tenth year the contest has run. The name of the game is simple: Make five picks on NFL or College Football point spreads or totals each week and attempt to outscore professional handicapper and face of the contest "The Prick". Standings are tracked year round and $20,000 is paid to the top 25 users in total units won. Users who have not yet enrolled may still sign up this week and qualify for the season-ending prizes, but act fast! After the completion of week three, only users already registered have a chance at the free cash prizes, though the weekly 100,000 points pot is still on the table.

Dashbet Sportsbook promo dispute; player's limits are slashed

09.15.2014

A Dashbet Sportsbook (unrated) player has filed a bonus complaint. The player states that he opened his account with the betting site one week ag. He deposited £500 and received a 50% sportsbook bonus. He tells SBR that he immediately sent his ID and was verified within one hour of depositing funds. The approach the user took to immediately clear KYC is advisable, and was a suggestion made in this article released by SBR on how to best comply with sportsbooks KYC processes. The bonus was not a back-end bonus; it was credited immediately to him. Following the entry of a handful of bets, the player has stated that Dashbet slashed his limits and lowered him to £10 maximum. In total, he would be asked to rollover his total funds to achieve £7,500 in play-through. The player contests being limited; though betting sites are free to adjust player's limits as determined necessary, however the industry standard in such cases is for the betting site to simply prorate the player's bonus and pay all winnings. Sportsbook Review is following up on the complaint, and asks Dashbet players with feedback to write to mail@sportsbookreview.com.

09.15.2014

Two position changes have been made on the online sportsbooks bonuses directory on Sportsbook Review. The bonuses are broken down by what's referred to as the "True Bonus", where a given offer is rated based on the pure bonus value per play by dividing the total bonus percentage by the rollover or play-through action required. Betting sites that hold a rating of C- or better are listed on the page.

Matchbook to continue servicing United Kingdom; obtain license

09.14.2014

Sources familiar with sports betting exchange Matchbook (SBR rating B+) tell SBR that the company has no plans to discontinue servicing sports bettors in the United Kingdom ahead of October 1st when the new UK Gambling Law will be in effect. The same sources also said that Matchbook will obtain official licensing ahead of the deadline. Sportsbook Review will continue monitoring the whos-in-and-whos-out as the deadline nears. SBR also expects bookmakers who hold licenses to decide early next year if operating with the hefty new overhead is viable.

Mybookie.ag Sportsbook initiated with D+ initial rating

09.14.2014

Mybookie.ag Sportsbook has been assessed with an initial sportsbook rating of D+. SBR reported on 1 September 2014 that the forum community requested the relatively new sportsbook to be evaluated. SBR began a process of collecting information on the sportsbook and surveying feedback from readers that took the time to write in via email or share their thoughts in the SBR Sportsbook & Industry section.

As was indicated in the preliminary review, Mybookie.ag accepted its first sports wager on 1 August 2014, making it a brand new company headed into the fall. SBR confirmed some operational details such as the hosting, location, and setup details of Mybookie.ag, which are accessible in the first report. Mybookie.ag has been given the entry mark of D+ in large part due to uncertainty surrounding their financial backers: The sportsbook is run by some ex-marketing and technical workers as defunct shop BetOnSports, as well as some employees from other industry sportsbooks, but beyond that, Mybookie has been unwilling to go on or off the record concerning why players should feel comfortable scoring a big parlay at their new shop than an established industry sportsbook.

Marathonbet among the sportsbooks to apply for UK license

09.12.2014

Marathonbet Sportsbook (SBR rating B) is among the sportsbooks to apply for a UK license ahead of the implementation of the unpopular new UK gambling law which SBR reported on this week. The law — The Gambling (Licensing and Advertising) Act requires sportsbooks that servce the UK market to hold a license with the UK Gambling Commission. Prior to this point, these betting sites were not required to hold the license provided they were subject to the laws of another EEA state or part of a "white list" jurisdiction, such as Isle of Man or Alderney. Marathonbet tells SBR that their application to the Gambling Commission was submitted on August 15, 2014, and the application was fully completed two weeks later. The application was submitted under "Marathonbet Alderney Limited" and is currently pending. Marathonbet.com is presently licensed with the Alderney Gambling Control Commission (AGCC).  Sportsbook Review published a Marathonbet profile on July 23.

Bad Beat for UFC Fight Night 50; BetDSI pays both sides

09.12.2014

During the Rodrigo Damm vs Al Iaquinta fight, the betting line on "total minutes of bout" was set by bookmakers at 2½ minutes in 2nd round. In other words, players were offered the chance to bet that the bout would end prior to the 2½ minute mark of the second round, or that the second round would go beyond that point.

Approximately midway through round two, Iaquinta floored Damm and the action was stopped. The outcome was then read by ring announcer Bruce Buffer, who declared that the contest ended 2 minutes and 41 seconds into the second round. However, the time clock at the bottom of the television production indicated that the actual stoppage came prior to the 2:30 mark and UFC.com offered various times on their own website. As is the case in all similar events, the officially recognized results are provided by the league or sanctioning body (unless the sportsbook's rules say otherwise) which in this case was the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Athletic Commission. BetDSI Sportsbook (SBR rating A+) has chosen to grade all bets on the total minutes of round two, whether over or under, as winners.

  • Remote gambling operators must hold a license with UK Gambling Commission
  • Point of Consumption tax imposed as of 1 Dec 2014
  • What does this mean for players?

Major legislative changes are set to take effect in the UK — starting October 1 all online sportsbooks that cater to clients residing in the UK must be licensed by the UK Gambling Commission. This requirement is part of the UK Government's sweeping gambling reform which introduces the Gambling (Licensing and Advertising) Act of 2014 (the "GLA") and amends existing law The Gambling Act, established in 2005. What does the new law mean for online sportsbooks and what do sports bettors need to know?

Cashpoint Sportsbook misgrades FIBA wager one week ago, yet to correct

09.08.2014

A Cashpoint Sportsbook (SBR rating C-) player has submitted a wagering dispute. The player has claimed that he made a wager last Sunday, September 1, and entered three multiple wagers or parlays. The grading of the South Korea vs. Australia FIBA match was allegedly incorrect. The player has stated that he has contacted Cashpoint wagering support four times and has heard nothing back for seven days. The player has reported that at half time the score of the game was 29:44 not 39:44 as listed in his wagering ticket. One of the player's parlays had Australia winning the first half with the point spread handicap at -8.5 (meaning Australia would have had to win the first half by nine points or more). The bet was graded as a loser. The player has claimed to have dealt with prior misgrades in the past with this outfit. Sportsbook Review has followed up with Cashpoint Sportsbook for comment.

Sportsbook Lines on the move for NFL Opening Weekend

09.07.2014
Week one of the NFL season kicks off in 45 minutes. The markets are far from settled as late action from sharp bettors and the public are contributing to substantial line movements.

Vikings vs. Rams: Kicks off at 1PM ET
In the Minnesota Vikings vs. St. Louis Rams match, the line opened at 5 points but has been cut in half with many top betting sites now offering a point spread of the Rams laying 2.5 points - this means that St. Louis must win by at least a field goal for bettors backing the favorite to cash their tickets.

Raiders vs. Jets: Kicks off at 1PM ET
The opening line for the Oakland Raiders and New York Jets was released at 4.5. Late action has pushed the point spread up to 6.5 in favor of the Jets. The total points listed is available at an average of 41 per the SBR Odds NFL totals data.

Patriots vs. Dolphins: Kicks off at 1PM ET
Online sportsbook Pinnacle Sports (SBR rating A+) has shared that in the New England Patriots vs. Miami Dolphins match, 60% of point spread bets have come in favor of the Pats. The total of 46.5 points has seen 62% of sports bettors taking the over, and 38% on the under.

49ers vs. Cowboys: Kicks off at 4:25PM ET
Pinnacle also noted a considerable amount of action has come in on Dallas today, as the sportsbook moved the juice on the Cowboys from +3.5 +102 to -119. The present offering of San Francisco against the spread of -3.5 at +108 is the highest payoff since the line opened.

Players complain of sportsbook grading after Alabama vs FAU called off in 53rd minute

09.06.2014
College Football sports bettors are either happy or furious after lightning put a premature end to the Alabama vs. Florida Atlantic game in the 53rd minute. Online sportsbooks as well as Las Vegas bookmakers require college football games to go at least 55 minutes for bets to have action. In this case, the game was called off in the 53rd minute, which means all wagers on point spread, money line, total, or exotic tickets containing either side have been voided. Adding to the drama was the fact that favorite Alabama was leading 41-0 at the time of stoppage; SBR Odds college football page shows at least two betting sites with their closing line at 42. In fact, one SBR poster claimed to have a ticket on Alabama -40 and Florida Atlantic +42.5 - meaning that had the final whistle not been used for another two minutes, he stood to win both bets. Alabama was in long field goal range when the game was called.

SBObet withdraws from UK gambling market

09.06.2014
SBObet Sportsbook (SBR rating A-) will no longer service UK based gamblers as of September 15, 2014. In an email released to players concerning the decision, SBObet stated that the move comes on the heels of legislative changes in the clients' country of residence pertaining to online gambling. The Gambling (Licensing and Advertising) Act is set to take effect on October 1. Sportsbook Review has reached out to SBObet for comment on the business decision. It is likely that additional operators who may not wish to shoulder a higher tax burden associated with servicing the UK online gambling market may similarly opt to shut-down shop in the UK.

UK based SBObet players are asked to withdraw their funds as soon as possible. Players who do not take action by September 30, 2014, will have their balances sent out to their last selected payment option. Outstanding bets will all be honored.

The full SBObet statement received by players can be seen below:

It is with regret that we wish to advise you that we are no longer able to continue to offer you the betting services with SBOBET.
This unfortunate circumstance has been brought about by the changes to the legislation in your country of residence with regard to online gambling. Unfortunately, it will now be necessary to close your SBOBET Account with effect from 15 September 2014.

However, all outstanding bets you have already placed for events scheduled after 15 September 2014 will not be affected and will be settled once they have been determined. In this event, your Account will remain available for login after 15 September 2014, solely for the purposes of withdrawal of funds but no further betting can be carried out. If you have any funds remaining in your SBOBET Account, the Account will remain accessible to you for the purposes of withdrawing funds. Kindly sign in, check your balance and make your withdrawal request immediately.
For Accounts with no outstanding bets, if we do not receive a withdrawal request by 30 September 2014, it will be necessary for us to close your SBOBET Account and arrange for the remaining funds to be returned to you via your current nominated payment option.
We wish to take this opportunity to thank you for your fantastic support in the past and would be more than pleased to be of service to you again in the event that there is a change in the regulatory landscape of your country of residence.

ComeOn Sportsbook dispute covered in Industry News video

09.05.2014

Sportsbook Review reported on a ComeOn Sportsbook (SBR rating D) player who claimed his account was closed without much explanation earlier this week. The player states that rule 5.1 was used to deny his earned winnings of €1800. The rule essentially ComeOn Sportsbook to enforce confiscations at its discretion if it believes its terms and conditions have been violated. Online betting sites are expected to offer evidence of player fraud or wrongdoing when deciding to not honor earned balances, as the industry standard of "you book the bet, you pay the bet" applies. More details on the ComeOn sportsbook complaint are given in an industry news video report released earlier today by SBR video host Natalie. ComeOn users with feedback or complaints to submit should write to mail@sportsbookreview.com.
