Wednesday’s SportsBIT Show: Celtics-Bucks, Warriors-Spurs & First MLB Pick

Milwaukee Bucks at Boston Celtics
This could be a first-round playoff matchup. The Celtics are in sole possession of the best record in the Eastern Conference this late into the season for the first time since the end of the 2007-08 season, when they won the title. Boston’s Avery Bradley on his team being the East’s No. 1 seed for the moment: "Every team in the NBA should want to be the best team in the NBA. We're showing that we can be if we're playing the right way, if we're playing the right kind of basketball. That's an accomplishment to be the first team in the East.”  Where the Bucks and Celtics finish in the East standings by the end of the regular season will somewhat depend on each other as they also close the year against one another in Boston on April 12.
The Celtics have the NBA’s fifth-rated defense since the All-Star break (18th pre-break) and enter having won seven of their past eight games and the schedule-makers handed them a huge break here because Boston hasn’t played since Sunday and is in game No. 5 of a six-game homestand. The Bucks are in the second of a back-to-back after winning in Charlotte on Tuesday to improve to 6-2 SU and ATS on the road in March. The Bucks and Celtics have played just once this season, a Boston 112-108 OT victory in Milwaukee on Jan. 28.  Isaiah Thomas had 37 points.

Golden State Warriors at San Antonio Spurs
It’s the final meeting of the season between the West’s two best teams. The Spurs already have clinched the season series 2-0 and would still have a shot at the conference’s top seed with a victory. The last time they met, both coaches mailed it in by resting their stars. Warriors coach Steve Kerr says he plans to play all his guys this time even though the Warriors come off a 113-106 win in Houston on Tuesday night. The Dubs’ Big 3 of Klay Thompson, Steph Curry and Draymond Green each played more than 33 minutes. Tuesday was also the 11th straight Warriors game to go ‘under’ the total as they held the Rockets to a season-worst 5-for-31 from 3-point range.
The Spurs have been off since crushing Cleveland on Monday. The Spurs have dominated the NBA’s best teams this season in going 9-1 against Cleveland, Houston, Golden State and Boston, with the only loss coming by two points (Nov. 9 vs. Rockets). Pau Gasol’s role appears to be growing on San Antonio as all his numbers are up over the past 10 games. He is averaging 28.2 points and 14.7 rebounds per 48 minutes over that stretch.

First Look At 2017 MLB Season
Baseball season starts Sunday already, and Teddy & Pauly have some takes on some individual player ‘over/under’ numbers. The big-league home run leader for the season is given a total of 45.5 at Westgate. The Cubs’ Kyle Schwarber is an interesting number at 28.5. He has 16 dingers in 236 big-league at-bats after essentially missing all last regular season. The number of 35.5 for Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado seems low as he has averaged 41.5 dingers the past two years, is healthy and in his prime -- and gets to tee off in Coors Field 81 games a year. On the pitching side, Clayton Kershaw has the highest wins total in the game but at just 16.5. There’s a lot of innings on that left arm the past five years. Reigning AL Cy Young winner Rick Porcello of Boston is at 13.5 after winning 22 in 2016. Fluke? The “play of the day” is the prop on ‘over/under’ 3.5 no-hitters this year. The ‘under’ is the call. Most managers won’t even allow their top starters to go eight innings these days. There was just one no-hitter in 2016.
