Sean Strickland vs. Uriah Hall
UFC Middleweight Main Event Bout
Saturday, July 31, 2021 – 11:05 PM ET at the UFC Apex Center
Uriah Hall (17-9-0)
It’s difficult to forget the name Uriah Hall simply because his introduction to the UFC roster was followed by a highlight-reel finish that remains as one of the UFC’s most remarkable finishes to date. A spin-kick TKO on The Ultimate Fighter reality television series left a considerable impression; now a veteran in the sport, he will put his tools to the test against a fellow mainstay within the middleweight roster.
Hall has spent most of his career fighting for the UFC, and it is rare we see him go to the judge's scorecards win or lose. A background in kickboxing becomes evident once the cage door has closed, as Hall owns a plethora of dangerous strikes supported by both his hands and feet.
An excellent bit of matchmaking, in my opinion, both men offer up an intriguing striking offense. Hall is coming off wins over Anderson Silva, Antonio Carlos Jr, and Chris Weidman but will now face a hungrier, younger and determined Sean Strickland.
Uriah Hall MMA Accomplishments
- The Ultimate Fighter 17 Knockout of the Season
- The Ultimate Fighter 17 Tournament Runner-Up
- UFC Performance of the Night (Two times)
- Tied for most knockout victories in UFC Middleweight division history (8)
Sean Strickland (23-3-0)
Despite having spent seven years signed by the UFC, Sean Strickland suffered from a two-year hiatus after becoming a victim of a serious motorcycle accident. Since his return in 2020, he’s been making up for lost time and is now boasting a 4-fight win streak.
Strickland has spent countless years inside an MMA gym, first picking up the gloves aged just 16-years-old. Now, aged 30, his fundamental boxing skills are shining through as he’s dominated the opposition while collecting valuable experience along the way.
A minor 3-losses on his UFC record, Strickland should bear no shame in going the distance with current welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. Strickland is entering his prime fighting years with a skillset to position himself as a top-ranked middleweight within the next 12-24 months.
Sean Strickland MMA Accomplishments
- UFC Performance of the Night (One time)
- KOTC Middleweight Champion (One Time) (Five defenses)
How Can Hall Win?
We’re going to witness a technical striking masterclass next weekend, as both men own elite offensive striking skills. However, their styles and approaches aren’t quite the same.
Hall will want to keep this fight at a distance, utilizing his 4-inch reach advantage behind a solid kicking game. Keeping his distance from Strickland will be imperative in Hall’s success. Should he allow the opposition to fight inside the pocket, or even worse, dictate a brawl, he could be on the end of a knockout loss.
How Can Strickland Win?
Strickland has shown a vast knowledge in the striking department, and he’s made some incredible reads whilst in the octagon. Most impressively, his ability to avoid incoming shots should assist his chances of victory next weekend.
Pressure is the key for Strickland, and Hall has failed to handle pressure from heavy-handed strikers in the past. With a high work rate, Strickland can cause his opponent to crumble.
Betting Prediction and Picks
The available UFC odds at Sportsbook Review are leaning towards Strickland, and this comes as no surprise. Hall’s career wins surface when he’s fighting a martial artist with low output and lack of pressure. Strickland is not this type of fighter. If Hall gives Strickland an inch, we may witness yet another knockout loss on the record of Uriah Hall.
