Augusto Sakai vs. Jairzinho Rozenstruik
UFC Heavyweight Main Event Bout
Saturday, June 05, 2021 – 11:05 PM EDT at the UFC Apex
Jairzinho Rozenstruik (11-2-0)
Hailing from Suriname in South America, Jairzinho Rozenstruik began training in martial arts at age eighteen. When local legend Michael Babb eventually discovered him, his skill set evolved to a new level. After his debut fight and loss, the fierce striker turned that loss into fighting fuel – a first-round knockout during his second attempt, earning the title “Bigi Boy”.
Further training and professional competition led Rozenstruik to become an 8-time champion with over 80 fights on his record, 52 of those contests ending via knockout. This success in kickboxing & muay thai led him into full-time MMA, and since 2017 he has accumulated an impressive 9-2 record, with eight of those fights ending due to the incredible power he possesses.
Rozenstruik has been and will continue to be a huge threat for any UFC heavyweight opponent that faces him, and a lengthy striking career has supplied him with a wealth of experience that can assist him amongst the elite. Expect “Bigi-Boy” to continue making waves on the UFC roster in the years to come.

- UFC Performance of the Night (One time) vs. Allen Crowder
- Multiple Time Kickboxing & Muay Thai Champion
Augusto Sakai (15-2-1)
Born and raised in Parana, Brazil, heavyweight brute Augusto Sakai has been professionally competing in MMA for the past decade. Aged 30, he is a youngster of the heavyweight division and should his skillset continue to evolve, we could see him competing for another ten years.
The former Bellator competitor has found his home in the UFC, and a 4-1 record since his arrival is evidence of that.
Sakai will be hunting to get back in the win column in a similar position to his opponent next weekend. He was successful during his first four UFC contests versus Chase Sherman, Andrei Arlovski, Marcin Tybura, and Blagoy Ivanov. But during September of 2020, he was stopped in his tracks during a 5th round ground and pound stoppage to Alistair Overeem, which we should note when heading to sportsbooks.
How can Sakai Win?
Sakai has a similar tendency to Rozenstruik, where they both read situations at a calm pace; I do not expect a rushing game in this contest, especially with the power at hand. The Brazilian has some great fundamental striking but has also been known to walk into his opponent’s punches.
I do not see a clear path for Sakai, and his wrestling offense has been almost non-existent – which would be the perfect offense to defeat Rozenstruik. Overall, Sakai has failed to impress me as much as his opponent this weekend.
How can Rozenstruik Win?
When we pay attention to Rozenstruik and the successes during his UFC tenure, a step-back left hook has been a critical weapon in his arsenal. The worst approach for anybody fighting the Suriname native is to pressure him and end his deadly counter striking overly. Of course, current UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou is the anomaly. It can pressure anybody without consequence, but the average fighter following this game plan could end up on the wrong side of a knockout.
His prior kickboxing experience becomes apparent with his mixture of low kicks to assist those heavy hands of his. Rozenstruik is a calm fighter, but he will attack with a vengeance once you open up a pleasurable angle for him.
The ideal game plan for Rozenstruik is to do what he does best, stay calm and read his opponent until the opportunity of a heavy attack presents itself.
Rozenstruik vs. Sakai Prediction
The available odds at Sportsbook Review reveal a hesitancy from the bookmakers; both men are floating around an even price. Still, I have to lean with long life kickboxing experience of Rozenstruik.
I do believe both fighters will remain relaxed, and neither man will force their output. I like the sports betting value of the over one and a half rounds with Rozenstruik taking the win.
