Randa Markos vs Claudia Gadelha

Saturday, July 06, 2019 – 08:35 PM EDT

Free UFC Pick: Randa Markos

Best Line Offered: Bovada +240

Gadelha 16-4-0 used to be one of the monsters under the bed at women’s straw weight. She was brought in as one of the women who could possible de-throne Joanna Jedrzejczyk, but she came up short twice. Since taking those losses she has been a short list contender and even hold a win over current champion Jessica Andrade. However, recently she has struggled. Claudia had a tough split decision win over Carla Esparza, which I honestly believed that she lost, and an unimpressive win over Nina Ansaroff. Nina is a name who you will know and respect in the division, but Claudia has gone 3-3 in her last 6 and just scraped by on a few of those. She is a strong grappler and when she has the opportunity she has a dangerous submission game, but any time a fighter will not wilt or bend to her will, she loses confidence and leaves the back door open in the second half of the fight.

Randa Markos, on the other hand, has never looked better! Her record does not look impressive at 9-6 but her level of competition has been rising on. She recently had an all-time career high performance against well-known durable fighter Angela Hill, who she submitted in the first round. The Quiet Storm has been grinding her way to decision wins and split losses and she comes equipped with the kind of wrestling and submissions that will cause Gadelha trouble.

Gadelha is the more seasoned fighter and she is likely the more physical of the two, but if Marko can defend the take down early and make Claudia work for it, she will leave herself that opening for a close fought decision or even a late submission when Gadelha fades as she is well known to do. This is a fight where you cannot feel comfortable laying the wood on Claudia because lately she just doesn’t appear to be the wrecking ball she used to be. It doesn’t matter if it’s lack of motivation or if she is plagued by injuries, but the fresher fighter in this matchup is Markos and I expect her to put up a fight. If the fight goes to a split decision you’ll always want to be sitting comfortable with +240 in your pocket.
