Scotland’s most cherished martial artist Joanne ‘JoJo’ Calderwood makes her return to the UFC octagon for an eleventh time. Her Muay-Thai base style was developed across her long tenure in the UFC, and now JoJo has a wide array of mixed martial arts tools.

Currently ranked third in the female flyweight division, a convincing win this weekend could very well gift Joanne the next chance at gold. Valentina Shevchenko has already defeated 1st, and 2nd ranked fighters, meaning third-ranked JoJo has her shot at stealing the glory.

Another dangerous Muay-Thai striker in Jennifer Maia will attempt to claim her position in the top five of the flyweight division, but a fierce scots-lady stands in her way.

Failing to make weight in her previous two fights does stem concerns for Maia, she’s massive for the division and struggles when it comes to weigh-ins.

At the End of the Day

The evolution of JoJo’s grappling offense and defense has helped her in the latter stages of her career. A high output striking system and cardio to match solidifies the number three ranking she currently holds. Jojo’s can dish out 50+ leg kicks every five minutes, and her takedown offense training has helped her defeat strong grapplers such as Andrea Lee.

Maia is a tough BJJ black belt but hasn’t found a finish in six years, her weight cutting issues are a cause for concern, and I doubt she’d receive the same title talks than JoJo after a win. Power strikes and combinations have worked well for Maia, but she’ll be one-step behind in the strikes-landed department.

Strong hands, with an equally potent wrestling offense, former College Footballer Trevin Giles will be fighting for Houston this weekend when he takes on Fort Worth resident Kevin Holland – in what’s set to be the battle of Texas.

The former Cage Combat middleweight champion hasn’t quite lived up to expectations since his arrival and will be looking to get back on track with a late replacement fighter in Kevin Holland.

Age: 27
Nationality: America

At the End of the Day

Both fighters are riding a similar career trajectory and given they’re from different areas of Texas – this makes for a fight of the night contender.

With just nine day’s notice, Kevin Holland steps up to the plate and face Trevin Giles, this is commendable in itself. But my interest in this matchup is sparked through the proposition market.

UFC odds are favoring Kevin Holland, as expected. In a fight where I see Holland dictating the pace with his advantageous reach, but also a match where Giles can’t afford to get finished – +255 on Holland to win by decision is screaming value in my opinion. Remember to find the best betting odds using SBROdds, finding value will dramatically affect your long-term betting investment.
