Dominick Reyes

Introduction, Background and UFC Career

Some say he should already be holding the light heavyweight title; Dominick Reyes came as close to beating Jon Jones than any other fighter in recent history. But with a dramatic decision not everyone agreed with, can the 'Devastator' reclaim what he believes is his?

An American born, former footballer in Reyes is no stranger to athletic competition. Still, a small thirteen fight professional MMA career might confuse casual fans as to why he has already fought for a title and now has another chance to shine. To simply put it, Reyes holds the nickname 'Devastator' for a good reason. It is not often Reyes has fought past five minutes and with only one loss on his record to Jon Jones by decision, you can figure out the rest.

Octagon Strengths

  • Believes he defeated Jon Jones, oozing confidence.
  • Knockout-power and speed advantage.
  • Durability, Reyes has never been finished.

Octagon Weaknesses

  • Lacking experience in comparison to his opponent.

Jan Blachowicz

Introduction, Background and UFC Career

The dark horse of the UFC light heavyweight division has silently, but violently earnt a title opportunity through hard work and impressive wins. Jan Blachowicz is riding a three-fight win streak over Corey Anderson, Ronaldo Souzaand Luke Rockhold β€“ all of which are former champions or title contenders.

Since the former champion Jon Jones vacated his belt to pursue the heavyweight division, number two-ranked Blachowicz will step up against the number one-ranked Reyes to determine the new king of the light heavyweight's. A long and prosperous career in martial arts stemmed way back before Blachowicz UFC tenure before Dana Whitecollected the Polish- fighters' cheques, he had amassed a 17-2 record in Europe.

With one more fight to win for Blachowicz to claim gold and his dream, can the highest-ranked fighter out of Poland bring championship glory to his native land?

Octagon Strengths

  • Huge experience advantage.
  • Enters this fight as the older fighter with more to lose.Β
  • Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt.

Octagon Weaknesses

  • Has lost five fights during his UFC career, one of those losses came against Patrick Cummings.
  • Was knocked out by a former middleweight fighter Thiago Santos

UFC Odds and Betting Thoughts

I expect precaution from Blachowicz from the get-go, the moment that bell rings I would anticipate nothing more than a feeling out process for the first 2:30-5:00 minutes. Testing their ranges respectively and possibly a grappling tussle of strength, one of his key attributes is his efforts inside the clinch so do not be surprised he if takes that route.

Although he is more than likely brimming with confidence, a smart Dominick Reyes would also welcome a feeling out process rather than a risky blitz. Long-term Reyes will want to utilize his devastating punches and kicks, with a wrestling defense that will keep the fight standing if he pleases. Power, speed and youth will face age, experience and grit. I struggle to see a fight where Blachowicz can knockout or submit a durable, almost unbreakable Dominick Reyes. And if the fight saw five rounds, I would favor the younger athlete in Reyes.

The current odds of -268 are steep but somewhat justified, given the fact nobody other than Jon Jones has caused Reyes any significant problems in the octagon. If you are looking for better value for your UFC picks, then Reyes to win inside the distance is -105.
