Alexander Volkanovski

The undefeated UFC featherweight Alexander Volkanovski dethroned the long-time titleholder Max Holloway and will make his first title defense against the same man.

Max Holloway hasn’t trained in a fight camp, he’s taken sparring sessions online, and in all honesty, he doesn’t look prepared to wreak havoc and reclaim the title he once held so dearly.

Volkanovski has an ability that if all fighters could possess, they’d find very few problems during their fights, and that’s a good gameplan. City Kickboxing out of New Zealand is home to some of the most elite level-talent on the UFC roster – and a theme coming from their gym is having a solid blueprint for their fighters when entering the octagon.

Dan Hooker gave Dustin Poirier one of his fiercest striking battles since Justin Gaethje. Israel Adesanya is the undefeated middleweight champion and Volkanovski himself has captured the featherweight championship after conquering the division’s greatest – City Kickboxing is an MMA gym that’s here to stay in the UFC.

Max Holloway

Aged twenty-eight, you’d never believe those numbers after spending the last decade watching Max Holloway fight against the UFC’s elite. A cardio ability to die for, matched alongside some of the cleanest striking offense and ever-evolving gameplan has pitted Holloway as a future Hall of Famer.

Holloway will be gifted an instant rematch, but his preparations surrounding the lead-up to UFC 251 on Fight Island hasn’t looked promising. I wouldn’t go as far as saying Holloway is underestimating his opponent, but his laid back nature isn’t going to defeat the machine that is Volkanovski.

At The End of the Day

The reality of Max Holloway losing twice to the newly crowned champion doesn’t sit well with me. It could be the last time we see Max compete for the title as the “Holloway Era” could very well be coming to an end. Two back to back defeats will put Holloway in a position where even the 2nd ranked place in the rankings won’t help a title claim. He’ll have to defeat multiple new-bloods to hold his position in the division.

It brings me no joy, but I think we’re going to see Volkanovski switch up the gameplan from strictly leg kicks, I’d never seen a fighter react to Holloways striking in such a proficient manner. I expect the significant striker counter to read at least 20% higher in favor of Volkanovski than it did the first fight.

Rose Namajunas vs Jessica Andrade II

UFC Female Strawweight Bout
Saturday, 11th July live from Fight Island in Abu Dhabi

UFC parlay prediction 2nd Leg: Rose Namajunas to win @ -200 with 5Dimes

Jessica Andrade

The first fight between Jessica Andrade and Rose Namajunas will go down as one of the most devastating knockouts in UFC history. A WWE-esque power-slam ended Rose in the second round, Andrade proved her power and worth.

The heavy-handed Brazilian was finding a decent amount of leg kicks on Rose in the first encounter, but other than that, her gameplan wasn’t going to plan.

Rose Namajunas

The mental preparation of Namajunas has seemed to be her only problem when entering the octagon. Making her one of the most underrated fighters in the UFC, Rose Namajunas was the first female fighter to deliver the legendary Joanna Jedrzejczyk her first loss, not once, but twice.

Before the knockout slam Rose suffered, she was utterly picking Jess apart. Other than a leg kick offence, Jess was struggling.

At The End of the Day

The current price isn’t the prettiest considering the outcome in the first scrap, but when an offensive technical ability is compared, the girls are a world apart.

I’d appreciate Rose playing the smart gameplan here, and paying attention to her recent interviews doesn’t seem to ring any mental alarm bells. So long as she can avoid having her back against the cage and finds an answer for the leg kicks, she should have what it takes to have her hand raised.
