The best sportsbooks have wasted no-time in providing us with a betting market for the future boxing contest between the UFC’s most notorious fighter Conor McGregor and the former boxing world champion Manny Pacquiao. Read on for our insight, prediction, and odds analysis.

Just as you thought our little Irish friend Conor McGregor had given up the fight game for a life of crime, he returns to social media – then announces that he will face another world champion boxer in Manny Pacquiao. Bad jokes aside, the announcement broke the internet as critics and fans alike stormed socials with their opinions.

So, what is going on exactly? It was just back in the summer of 2020 when Conor McGregor announced his retirement, but we can hardly be surprised the two-time UFC multiple-division champion was holding any weight with that comment. It is not the first time Conor has announced his retirement to only return, and I doubt it will be the last.

The rumour-mill can often jade our excitement with social media beef and false callouts, but the potential of McGregor taking on Pacquiao is high. CNN in the Philippines received a statement from Pacquiao’s team confirming the details and contracts are still being finalized, but that’s all we need – confirmation.

“Our lawyers are finalizing all the confidential details, but both fighters are getting ready for this one epic last boxing fight,” the statement read.

When Will Conor Mcgregor Fight Manny Pacquiao

There is no current date set for the fight; however, Conor McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh expressed his thoughts on when the contest may take place:

“It’s in the works. Both boxers have agreed fundamentally. Behind the scenes, there are a lot of terms and conditions, legal teams, and managers that must work out fine details.” Kavanagh told Boxing Productions TV. “I believe it will happen. When? I am not sure. I think it might be early next year. The wheels are in motion.”

“It looks like I’ll be coaching boxing again,” said Kavanagh.

Finally, some time scale has been presented, and 2021 looks to be the year. McGregor previously hinted the fight, so the official announcement does not come as much surprise considering the revenue that is profited from such high-profile fights.

Where will Conor McGregor fight Manny Pacquiao

Much like the unknown scheduled date, the location of the fight is still up in the air. McGregor’s twitter post did hint the fight would take place in the Middle East. But with the current coronavirus situation, we can only assume they would arrange the boxing contest to take place with a contingency plan. A crowd-less arena or another spread would undoubtedly jeopardize the fight’s potential out-reach and profits.

The Odds-on Conor McGregor vs. Manny Pacquiao

I believe the audacity of Conor McGregor switching sports and challenging two of the greatest boxers in history will give him legend-status win or lose. Still, we must be realistic – An aging, slower, less-reactive Mayweather toyed with McGregor back in 2017, can we expect much difference from Manny Pacquaio?

Probably not, and the top sportsbooks agree. An opening price of -450 on Manny Pacquiao gave him an implied probability of 81.8%, and I would only expect these odds to continue juicing into the -1000 region beyond the new year.

McGregor has a punchers chance of defeating Pacquiao, you cannot become a world-class boxer overnight. With generations of work and eight weight classes of domination, I can’t envision McGregor outboxing the WBA Champion with a 67-7-2 professional record.
