American mixed martial artist Alex Caceres, left, hits Chinese mixed martial artist Wang Guan during the 2017 UFC Fight Night Shanghai at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai, China, 25 November 2017. Wang Guan's right hand was on point in his UFC debut against veteran Alex Caceres. And though Caceres (13-11 MMA, 8-9 UFC) showed glimpses of being able to get something working against Guan (17-1-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC), Guan was too much and took a split-decision win with a pair of 29-28 scores. Caceres got a dissenting 29-28 score of his own. The featherweight bout was part of the main card of the UFC Fight Night 122 event at Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai on Saturday (25 November 2017). UFC featherweight contenders do battle on the UFC in Vegas 41 main card. We make our Alex Caceres vs Seung Woo Choi picks.

“Bruce Leeroy” Caceres (18-12) carries one of the best nicknames in MMA today; however, the betting odds suggest he will need the spirit of Bruce Lee to assist him in defeating his opponent.

Choi (10-3-0) returns to the octagon following a vicious left hook to ground and pound finish over Julian Erosa in June, proving his worth against a well-seasoned MMA fighter.

Here are my picks and predictions for Saturday's featherweight bout at UFC in Vegas 41 between Alex Caceres and Seung Woo Choi (odds via DraftKings Sportsbook and FanDuel Sportsbook).

Caceres vs. Choi Odds Analysis

Caceres is in the fighting prime of his career, but I guess the betting public doesn’t agree with the American’s uptrend in results and current form. Opening odds of +155 have taken a massive move to +205 at DraftKings.

Choi was sitting at a respectable line of -180, but even DraftKings can’t supply a better price than -255 since the tickets on Choi came rushing in.

Alex “Bruce Leeroy” Caceres Betting Profile

Caceres is enjoying the longest win streak of his professional mixed martial arts career. Four successive wins over Steven Peterson, Chase Hooper, Austin Springer, and Kevin Croom are now positioning the Florida native for a serious run into the top-20 featherweight rankings.

The UFC experience of Caceres is undeniable. Ten years fighting for the promotion has delivered ups and downs, but the knowledge he has gained along the way is irreplaceable.

Caceres presents a well-rounded skillset; he shows great footwork and a sense of illusiveness that can be difficult to read in the stand-up area. His defensive attributes are notable behind said footwork, but his hands can be found left hanging at times, leaving him prone to a skillful striker.

The grappling offense of Caceres is rarely utilized, although I do believe it is significantly better than his defense.

Seung Woo Choi Betting Profile

The South Korean native made his way onto the UFC roster through a recognizable striking offense. Facing heavy grapplers upon his arrival gave Choi a rough 0-2 start. With that said, he has been able to prove his worth since the level of competition dropped.

Choi’s striking skills are likely to be on display, his power strikes usually dictate his wins, but the boxing fundamentals are undoubtedly present. Trips in the clinch and grappling situations are something Choi should steer away from, as his 1-2-3 combination, push kicks, and violent streak in the stand-up is worth focusing on.

It’s a sub-par takedown defense that’s cost Choi his pro career losses; with a game plan centered around his kickboxing output, it’s going to be difficult for most mediocre featherweights to contend with him.

Caceres vs. Choi Betting Picks

Seung Woo Choi to win (-255, DraftKings)Fight goes to decision (-176, FanDuel)

Caceres vs. Choi Betting Predictions

Seung Woo Choi to win (-255)

Sliding back check hooks on his backfoot gives the impression Caceres is a flashy, sleek style of fighter. Still, those acrobatics aren’t going to prevent the forward pressure and diversified combinations of Choi.

In saying that, I worry about the heavy betting juice we’re looking at. Caceres can become annoying if his opponents don’t present a certain amount of composure. I can envision the footwork of Caceres freezing up Choi in the stand-up, but in reality, it should be Choi’s fight to lose.

The odds aren’t desirable, but picking against Choi in this contest wouldn’t be the wisest move. Caceres is riding the best win streak of his career, yes, but the difficulty of opponents has been extremely low.

Fight goes the distance (-176)

The fight at hand should reach the judges’ scorecards; Choi poses a severe knockout threat, but its “Bruce Leeroy’s” footwork and head movement that I anticipate saving him from Choi’s power punches.

With Caceres rolling with the punches and boasting a 30-fight professional MMA career that’s seen him lose via strikes on one occasion, supporting this fight to see all three rounds is a no-brainer.

Sure, Erosa fell victim to Choi’s left bomb, but the reckless style of “Juicy J” isn’t shared by Caceres.
