Antonina Shevchenko is the older sister of currentent women’s flyweight champion Valentina “The Bullet’ Shevchenko and she is not having as much success in the UFC as her sister. After a huge break out performance on Dana White’s Contender series in 2018 she had a successful UFC debut against Ji Yeon Kim, but lost her most recent battle against Roxanne Modafferi as a -340 favorite. I do want to point out that we played Roxanne as a HUGE underdog in that fight. The key to Roxanne’s victory was the trip take down and her ground game which is miles ahead of Shevchenko’s. The UFC is looking to get a valuable name back on track here but throwing Shevchanko a fighter who has shot an astounding zero takedowns in her UFC career.

I’m not the only one who realized that while Antonina is a phenomenal striker her ground game needs a lot of work. The world unfairly looks down on Modafferi and because of the advantage she exploited against Shevchenko in their fight the betting public believes Antonina is just not as good as they thought and nothing could be farther from the truth. Antonino has a single loss in her storied career in kickboxing going an astounding 39-1. As far as her MMA stats go she offers 5.29 significant strikes per minute with 56% accuracy. Usually when you see output like that you would expect lower defensive numbers however Antonina has an incredible 65% striking defense and only absorbs 2.09 significant strikes in return.

Lucie Pudilova is a younger fighter who may have a future in MMA, but she is looking to climb a very tall mountain here. Unless she has a ground game that she has just never shown in her 5 UFC fight career she is planning on striking with Antonina and that doesn’t bode well for her backers. Pudilova is only 2-3 in the UFC and lands 4.87 significant strikes per minute with 38% accuracy and a 53% striking defense causing her to absorb 4.21 significant strikes per minute and she has never faced a striker on the level of Shevchenko. If Pudilova can get this fight to the ground at all, I don’t expect her to be able to hold Shevchenko there. I think Antonina gets back on the winning track here with a hand picked opponent and the line should be much wider than it is.
