World Cup Top Picks for Thursday

Moneyline: Switzerland (-135) ★★★★

Switzerland left Italy at home in the qualifiers for the World Cup and kicked France out of Euro 2020 last summer. In the Nations League this year, they recorded wins over Spain and Portugal. They are no pushovers and will want to continue surprising the world in Qatar.

They have a mature squad, with solid options in every position and a big desire to do something remarkable at the final tournament. On the other hand, Cameroon don’t benefit anymore from the top players they did in the past. Switzerland should be able to add three points to their Group G total after their opening clash at the World Cup.

Spread: Switzerland -1 (+220) ★★★★

Even though the World Cup is always a different story, Cameroon couldn’t deliver against the likes of Panama (1-1), Jamaica (1-1), Uzbekistan (0-2), and South Korea (0-1) in the four friendly matches they played since September. Switzerland, on the other hand, recently won against Spain and Portugal.

A victory by two goals is a reachable objective for the Swiss on Wednesday evening. DraftKings offers Switzerland -0.75 at +100, with Switzerland -0.5 standing at -135.

Total: Portugal-Ghana Over 3.5 (+235) ★★★

Cristiano Ronaldo, Rafael Leao, Bernardo Silva, and Bruno Fernandes. In any order. Not many coaches could refuse the chance to sign any of these top players to cover their attacks in gold. A motivated and always-hungry Ronaldo will surely be 100% focused on further extending his records and proving his critics wrong.

Portugal has the class and quality required to score for fun. Ghana’s open style also encourages goals to be scored in this game. If you’re after a more cautious option, DraftKings has Over 2.5 goals at -105.

Upset: Serbia to tie or win (+170) ★★★

Serbia did well in the European Qualifiers, topping a group that Portugal was also part of. Brazil shouldn’t be too relaxed, as Serbia play a mature, physical and energetic game that no opponent likes.

The good news for Serbia is that top striker Aleksandar Mitrovic has recovered from the injury that kept him sidelined at Fulham in the two weeks before the World Cup. Mitrovic scored nine goals in 12 games for Fulham during this Premier League season, so his presence in the Serbian attack is priceless. Serbia showed no fear no matter the opponent they faced as of late. It’s expected they’ll have a similar approach against Brazil.

Prop: Ronaldo anytime scorer (+120) ★★★

Ronaldo was just shown the door by Manchester United in the wake of his explosive interview with Talk TV’s Piers Morgan. Cristiano will be highly motivated at this World Cup to show United and his potential suitors that he’s still a top player, even at 37.

Ronaldo is desperate to silence his critics and to show that he’s still capable of staying at the top of the game. DraftKings has him at +120 to hit the net against Ghana. If you’re opting for Ronaldo to net at least twice, you’re getting a +700 return, while a bet on three or more goals from CR7 brings +3500 to your account. FanDuel has Ronaldo scoring the first goal in the match at +290, with a very interesting option at +10000: Ronaldo scoring from a Bernardo Silva assist and Silva netting after a pass from Ronaldo.

Parlay: Portugal-Ghana Over 1.5 goals + Silva assist (+244) ★★★

Portugal’s squad is full of quality. Ronaldo and his colleagues will try to put it on the plate fast in the match versus Ghana. A high-scoring match is a real possibility, so there should be few problems to get two goals on the scoreboard.

Before the tournament started, Man City star Bernardo Silva vowed to dedicate his performances at the World Cup to Cristiano Ronaldo and his legacy in football. Silva is equally deadly when assisting others and when he goes for the goal himself. Given his dynamic and form, he’ll be able to trouble the Ghanaian defense and either finish himself or assist his colleagues.

If you opt for a parlay featuring an Over 2.5 goals match between Portugal and Ghana and a Bernardo Silva goal, FanDuel returns +336.
