Leganes vs. Real Madrid
Sunday, July 19, 2020 – 03:00 PM EDT at Butarque
The final round of fixtures in the 2019-20 La Liga season takes place on Sunday and there are some interesting games to look forward to.
Real Madrid wrapped up their 34th La Liga title when they beat in-form Villarreal 2-1 on Thursday night. Star striker Karim Benzema grabbed both goals and the defense remained pretty resolute, helping Los Blancos open up an unassailable seven-point lead over Barcelona, who lost to Osasuna. Real Madrid’s final game of the season sees them travel to relegation-threatened Leganes. Javier Aguirre’s men have been in terrific form lately, with three wins and a draw from their last four games. That has seen them climb off the bottom of the table and move to within just a point of 17th placed Celta Vigo. Victory over Real Madrid could see them pull off a great escape and avoid relegation.
However, that is easier said than done. Real Madrid have won all of their games since the restart. Zinedine Zidane is expected to rest several key players for this game, as he will not want to risk anyone suffering an injury. Real Madrid play Man City on August 7 for the second round of their Champions League last-16 clash, which they trail 2-1 on aggregate, so there is a clear motivation to keep players healthy. Yet they boast an extremely strong squad, and even a Real Madrid reserve team could sweep Leganes aside. You can find huge soccer odds on a Real Madrid win (as high as +150), which has to be worth a try. Both teams to score also looks tempting at -133 with some sportsbooks.
Espanyol vs. Celta Vigo
Sunday, July 19, 2020 - 03:00 PM EDT at Cornellá-El Prat
Celta Vigo need to beat bottom club Espanyol in their final game in order to guarantee their survival. Espanyol have lost eight games in a row and they seem to have downed tools since their relegation was confirmed. They suffered a 1-0 defeat against Valencia on Thursday, and they have now gone four games without scoring.
Celta Vigo’s form has been mixed since the restart. They did really well to pick up draws against Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, while they beat a strong Real Sociedad team and thrashed Alaves 6-0. However, they also lost heavily to struggling Mallorca, and they have lost their last two games. They conceded in the 92nd minute of a 2-1 defeat to Osasuna, and lost 3-2 to Levante last time out.
Nolito was sent off in the dying stages of that game, so they will not be able to call upon him for this crucial clash. Yet Celta Vigo should have enough firepower from the likes of Iago Aspas, Santi Mina and Rafinha to clinch a crucial victory against Espanyol.
- Soccer Pick: Celta Vigo and under 4.5 goals at -110 with Bovada
Atletico Madrid vs. Real Sociedad
Sunday, July 19, 2020 - 03:00 PM EDT at Wanda Metropolitano
A point against Real Sociedad would be enough to guarantee third place for Atletico Madrid. Diego Simeone’s men have been magnificent since the restart, with seven wins and three draws from 10 games. They should be able to end the campaign by beating Real Sociedad. Atletico Madrid do have a big Champions League tie to look forward to, but the first leg of their quarter-final against RB Leipzig is not until August 13, so Simeone should put out a strong side for this game.
Real Sociedad also need a win to guarantee a Europa League spot next season. They struggled badly after the restart, but they have rallied to a certain extent. They beat Villarreal 2-1 on Monday and held Sevilla to a 0-0 draw last night. Yet Atletico look superior in terms of quality, and the odds on a home win are attractive.
- Soccer Pick: Atletico Madrid to win and under 4.5 goals at +120 with Bovada
