Champions Real Madrid are back in action when the new La Liga campaign resumes this weekend, and the odds on them winning look enticing.

Getafe vs. Osasuna

Friday, September 18, 2020 – 03:00 PM EDT at Coliseum Alfonso Perez

Getafe will be keen to start their 2020/21 campaign with victory over a resolute Osasuna side on Friday night. José Bordelas’ men came within a whisker of securing Champions League football in 2019, and looked like they might grab a top four finish last term.

However, they struggled badly after the restart and ended up eighth in the table. That slump in form can be attributed to their small and aging squad, which could not deal with the rigors of playing such regular football in the heat of the Spanish summer.

Getafe should be better equipped to challenge for a top-four spot this season, now that the schedule has returned to a semblance of normality. They are not playing in the Europa League this time around, so they can train all their efforts on La Liga.

Osasuna shot up to 10th in the table last season after taking seven points from their final three games. They began the new campaign with a 2-0 win away at newly-promoted Cadiz, so they should approach this upcoming match with confidence.

These teams drew 0-0 on both meetings last season, as Osasuna impressed after securing promotion to the top flight. However, Getafe are the stronger team, with superior players in almost every department, and they should win this game if they play close to their potential. The soccer odds on the home win look very tempting.

Granada vs. Alaves

Sunday, September 20, 2020 - 12:30 PM EDT at Los Carmenes

Granada opened their account with an extremely impressive 2-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao last weekend. They were the surprise package last season, as they finished seventh in the standings and earned Europa League qualification on their first season back in La Liga Primera.

They picked up where they left off with an impressive win on Saturday. Second-half goals from Yangel Herrera and Luis Milla put Athletic to the sword, and the Granada defense never looked troubled as they kept a clean sheet. Top-rated sportsbooks like the highly-rated BetOnline were offering attractive odds on a home win for Granada, and you can find great La Liga odds on them winning again on Sunday.

It could be a long old season for Alaves after they lost 1-0 to Real Betis in their opener. They did not look threatening in attack, and the players struggled to adapt to Pablo Machin’s 3-5-2 formation. Machin made four changes in the second half, but Alaves created very little.

They are now among the favorites to be relegated, along with the three newly promoted clubs. This is a game that Granada really should win.

Real Sociedad vs. Real Madrid

Sunday, September 20, 2020 - 03:00 PM EDT at Anoeta

La Liga champions Real Madrid will begin their title defense with a tricky trip to San Sebastian on Sunday. Real Sociedad finished sixth last season, thanks largely to the efforts of playmaker Martin Odegaard, who was on loan from Real Madrid.

The Norwegian star has now returned to his parent club, but Real Sociedad responded by pulling off the transfer coup of the summer. David Silva was all set to move from Man City to Lazio, but Sociedad swooped in and brought him to Anoeta instead. He missed their opener after testing positive for Covid-19, but he is now poised to make his debut.

It will be exciting to watch him link up with Mikel Merino and Mikel Oyarzabal this season. Oyarzabal and a few others missed Sociedad’s 1-1 draw with Valladolid last weekend due to coronavirus, but he should also return.

Real Madrid embarked on an astonishing 10-game winning streak when La Liga resumed following a three-month hiatus in June. That saw them finish five points clear of rivals Barcelona to clinch the title. They are the favorites in the La Liga odds to win the league again.

Los Blancos struggled against Man City in the Champions League, but they have annihilated the competition in Spain over the past year. Zinedine Zidane has a strong and settled squad, and they have benefitted from a decent pre-season.

Real Sociedad’s preparations were plunged into chaos due to that coronavirus outbreak, whereas it has been plain sailing for Real Madrid, and they should open the season with a win.

Real Betis vs. Valladolid

Monday, September 21, 2020 - 03:00 PM EDT at Benito Villamarin

Real Betis will be emboldened by that 1-0 away win against Alaves in the opening weekend of the new season. Manuel Pellegrini has inherited a talented squad, and he could be the man to unlock the full potential of players like Nabil Fekir, Borja Iglesias, Sergio Canales, and William Carvalho.

Alaves frustrated Betis for large parts of the game on Sunday, but they kept at it and their efforts were rewarded when substituted Christian Tello grabbed a last-gasp winner. Betis look capable of securing a top-half finish and challenging for a Europa League place this season now that Pellegrini is at the helm.

Valladolid did well to finish six points clear of the relegation zone last season. They operate on a small budget, but they actually ended up a point clear of Betis in the standings, which is an impressive achievement. They are stubborn at the back and difficult to break down.

That was in evidence during their 1-1 draw with Sociedad last weekend, but they clearly benefited from the absence of players like Silva and Oyarzabal. They may not have so much joy on the road against a full-strength Betis side.
