Portland Look To Bounce Back

The Portland Timbers enter their clash with the LA Galaxy as the significant road underdogs across multiple sports betting sites with most serving up odds that offer the return on investment (2-to-1) on the Timbers. Whether bettors can expect to bank on a Timbers win on the road remains to be seen, but recent road form suggests otherwise.

The Timbers are flush off a 2-1 loss to Minnesota United at Allianz Field on Saturday, July 24 – a road loss that sees the Timbers slip to the eighth spot in the Western Conference table and outside of the playoff frame behind a 6-1-7 mark and 19 points. It also marked their fourth straight winless road account since May.

Portland’s loss could go down as one of the more significant setbacks on the season considering that they had the initiative throughout the game. They were up 1-0 early and looked to be in charge throughout but for a late-game collapse that snatched out of their eager grasp the three points that were well within their reach. The Loons scored in the 75th minute to tie the game and then Robin Lod scored the game-winner in the 85th minute.

It’s too early to say for certain, but the loss to Minnesota may well come back to bite them if it factors in the broad spectrum of the playoffs. That is, assuming both teams advance into the postseason. For the time being, it’s a tightly packed cluster of teams that are sat pretty in the middle of the table and on the fringe of playoff contention. Portland are merely a point adrift of Real Salt Lake (seventh) the table and three points behind Minnesota United (sixth), who leap-frogged into sixth place at the close of the weekend thanks to the three points taken at the expense of Portland. Take it into consideration for your MLS odds.

Galaxy Spinning Out of Control

LA Galaxy, in the meanwhile, appears to have hit a bit of a rough patch of late. And their recent run of form and spate of results, soccer betting markets are predictably understated for the hosts with some cases showing the Galaxy priced in plus money on the money line, but only slightly shy of even money.

They’re winless in their last three fixtures, including a stunning 4-0 defeat to the lowly FC Dallas last weekend. LA Galaxy are known to struggle on the road at times, but to succumb to such a margin of defeat was unexpected, not to mention it raises some concern for the Galaxy as the season plods along. Take it into consideration for your MLS picks.

Few soccer bettors could have predicted quite such a defeat for the Galaxy even though they were playing on the road. After all, FC Dallas are one of the conference’s basement dwellers – a team that seemingly couldn’t buy a win no matter how hard it tried (through 15 fixtures, three wins is all Dallas have to show for their efforts so far).

If one were to make some allowances for the Galaxy’s setback, it’s that they were forced to field a watered down side. Javier Hernandez was side-lined with injury and Jonathan dos Santos, Efrain Alvarez and Sebastian Lletget were absent due to Gold Cup call-ups. Still, to be brushed aside by a Dallas team that prior to the game was propping up the table with a 2-5-7 mark and 11 points doesn’t provide good optics.

As it is, the Galaxy remains in the top half of the Western Conference table, sitting pretty in third place behind an 8-1-6 mark and 25 points. However, with Colorado nipping at their heels in the standings, merely a point shy, the Galaxy don’t have any wiggle room left. Dropping further points this week could see the Galaxy slide down the table significantly, triggering a negative course that they might struggle to reverse later on.

Soccer Predictions and Picks

Can the Galaxy bounce back at home? Thus, proving to be the value soccer pick. Or will the Portland Timbers heap more misery on the Galaxy as they look to get back on track? To all intents and purposes, this is a tough game to predict.

If all things were equal, the Galaxy without hesitation would be the smart bet considering home advantage mainly. However, with the team dealing with injuries and absences, betting on Galaxy is by no means certain. That said, they’re truly under the cosh right now and they need a win to get back on track. Home advantage could yet prove the charm towards clinching maximum points.

Portland’s not without their fair share of problems, namely on defense lately as evinced by the two late goals conceded in their last match. If the Galaxy can therefore capitalize on this chink in Portland’s armour, a home win is very probable. So much so that backing the Galaxy to come through as the home side for soccer picks is the more tempting bet after all.
