Our European football banker of the week this weekend comes from the English Premier League as the latest addition of wealth in the league (Newcastle) faces off against a struggling Tottenham on home soil. Our Banker is coming in at soccer odds of -120 at SBR's top-rated sportsbooks, although we are laying some juice here, it seems like a pretty solid investment.

Newcastle United FC vs Tottenham Hotspur FC

Sunday, October 17, 2021 - 11:30 AM EDT at St James’s Park

Newcastle Swimming in Gold

After 10+ years of troublesome ownership by previous owner Mike Ashley, Newcastle fans can rejoice as they have been bought by one of the wealthiest investment funds in the world, the Saudi Arabia Investment fund, which is said to be worth almost 500 billion and are now the wealthiest owners in world football. Side note: Inter Milan is also on the radar for this Investment fund.

With all that being said, Newcastle won’t have their “rescue” package of the transfer window for another 2 and a half months, and within that time they have to drag themselves from the relegation zone.

The Magpies are now winless in seven games and find themselves second last on just three points. It wouldn’t look good for new owners if they were still in the relegation zone come January and a load of money would have to be spent to save them from the embarrassment of playing in the Championship next season.

Newcastle can feel a little hard done by as they have a decent squad, certainly not a team worthy of relegation. Maybe it’s time Steve Bruce steps aside, although the new owners no doubt are already working on with big named coach they can bring into the team. Firstly, so they can hopefully win some more games but more importantly, attract bigger players to the club.

Can the first game under new ownership bring the toon army to a victory on home soil, in what will no doubt be a party atmosphere, against an inconsistent Tottenham?

Tottenham Continue to Struggle

It’s not all doom and gloom for Tottenham fans, they sit three points off second place and four points adrift from league leaders Chelsea. What we are referring to when we say struggle is how inconsistent they have been this season, we believe it stems from two things.

Firstly we have the new coach Nuno Esposito, he is still trying to implement his style onto the team, and the second reason is the Harry Kane issue. Kane should have been allowed to go in the summer transfer window and now we are seeing a version of Kane that isn’t up the par with his previous few seasons, he is yet to find the back of the net this season.

Tottenham’s previous two away games were arguably two of the worst away performances they have had in recent years suffering an embarrassing 3-1 loss to London rivals Arsenal and an even more embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace. Can they head up north to the party atmosphere in Newcastle and come away with all three points?

Newcastle vs. Tottenham Pick

We are going for a bet combo here; the Premier League odds hold some strong value with the projected odds, in our opinion, said to be about -140.

Our favorite soccer pick this weekend is over 1.5 match goals in a combo with over 2.5 match cards. This looks solid to us, not only are the stats favorable, with Newcastle averaging 1.67 cards per home game and Tottenham 2.67 per away game. These teams have also seen an average of 5 cards per game, which as a standalone bet can be backed at +190.

The goals angle is pretty easy also, as we believe Newcastle fans and owners will expect them to go for a win here and not settle for a draw. Tottenham knows they are up against it here and need to keep up wins if they wish to stick with the running pack for as long as possible.

Newcastle has seen all seven games this season hit over 1.5 goals and we expect that trend to continue here on Sunday. If you want our opinion on the official winner, we would probably take Newcastle or draw at -130, and maybe for a side bet (possibly a small hedge also), you could play Harry Kane 2+ goals at +500 as he is long overdue a goal so we believe one might result in two.

Soccer Pick: Over 2.5 Cards (-120)

Soccer Pick: Over 1.5 Goals (-120)
