One of the most-anticipated matches of the 2022 World Cup takes place Friday as USA faces England in Qatar. Read on for our top England-USA World Cup picks.

This is the third meeting between England and USA at the FIFA World Cup, with the United States winning 1-0 in 1950 before a 1-1 draw in 2010. Will it be the third time lucky for England, or will USA continue to frustrate the Three Lions?

In all competitions, England have won eight of their 11 meetings with USA, with one draw and two losses. Their last defeat at the hands of the Americans was 2-0 in June 1993, winning four and drawing one of their meetings since then.

USA have won one of their last six matches coming into Friday, a 5-0 victory over Grenada in June of this year. Since that win, they’ve drawn three matches and lost one. Their last clean sheet against European opposition at a World Cup was against England, back in 1950. They’ve conceded in each of their last 18 matches against European teams in the competition for a total of 32 goals allowed.

England have scored nine goals in their last two games, including six on Monday. The Three Lions' 716 completed passes in that 6-2 win over Iran were their most in any World Cup game since winning the tournament in 1966. They’re moving the ball well and have multiple players scoring goals (eight different scorers in their last two games), and they’ve got flare. England will put pressure on the US defense early and will continue to attack it, so the Americans will have to hold tight for the full 90 minutes.

England vs. USA O/U Pick 

Over 2.5 (-118) ★★★★

England can score goals. Five different players (Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford, and Jack Grealish) scored for England in the 6-2 win over Iran. Nine players either scored or assisted for the Three Lions in that game, the most for a team in a World Cup match since 1974.

USA's 34 games played at the World Cup without ever having a goalless draw are more than any other side. As good as England have been going forward in recent matches, they’ve failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last four games in all competitions while conceding a total of six goals. Their attacking play could open things up at the back and leave them vulnerable against the counter, which is where the U.S. could have their best chances of scoring. 

Most books are offering -120 odds for the Over. The best value is at FanDuel with a market-high price of -118.

England vs. USA Prop Pick

Rashford anytime scorer (+190) ★★★★

Rashford has scored eight goals for Manchester United through all competitions this season. He scored his first goal of Qatar 2022 with pretty much his first touch of the game. He came on as a second-half substitute for Saka and could feature more for England on Friday against USA. 

The Three Lions’ talisman, Harry Kane, injured his ankle during Monday’s win over Iran and was taken for a scan during the week. England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford announced that Kane was fine and had been training on Wednesday, but his game time could be limited in this Group B match, especially if England have a comfortable lead with half an hour to play. Keep an eye on the team news, because if Kane is not 100% fit, they might rest him for later in the tournament, meaning Rashford could start. 

Rashford almost doubled his goal tally against Iran but had his shot blocked near the end of the match. His ball control was excellent, and he showed great composure for his goal as well as that late opportunity. His pace and awareness could be a threat to the Americans.
