Bundesliga is shuffling values week by week, and now Borussia Dortmund host Mainz with ambitions to climb to the top again. RB Leipzig must rise back playing in Wolfsburg. But most of all Bayern Munich will unleash all their rage against Freiburg, whose late good record might not be enough. Here’s a complete preview, updated soccer odds, and our top betting picks.
Bayern Munich vs. Freiburg
Sunday, January 17, 2021 – 09:30 AM EST at Allianz Arena
Bayern Munich challenged their luck and their skills too many times this season until they fell. Obviously, it couldn't happen against RB Leipzig or Dortmund, or even Leverkusen, where they were enough well focused. But finally, against Gladbach, they just waited too long to be into the game, and it wasn't that time where they could recover and win it. For nine games in a row they have conceded before Half Time, which is inconceivable for Bayern, and all in all, since November they are struggling to keep up for an entire game.
It is just normal: their past season was too long, their break was too little, and not even in a normal situation anybody is able to play always at the top for the entire season. Last but not least, losing Thiago Alcantara has been highly underestimated, considering he was the best midfielder by far, and how that could have not had any impact considering his position was the most crucial, the playmaker able to give also balance, and considering he has not practically being replaced but simply Bayern have modified their style.
Said this, Bayern are gonna unleash all their frustration on Freiburg. Which actually is not a soft opponent: one of the biggest surprises of the season so far, 5 wins in a row and a 7 games undefeated streak. Very good collective, but that's it, considering their technical leader is Vincenzo Grifo, an honest forward who scored 7, and that has been surprisingly called by Roberto Mancini in the national team but to be the 7th forward available on the line.
In the last 10 games, Bayern have won only once with at least 3 goals advantage, which is pretty uncommon for them. They must bounce back and Freiburg, for how good they will play, they will have to face a sharpened Bayern old-style version, so prepare for a win with at least 3 goals gap.
Wolfsburg vs. RB Leipzig
Saturday, January 16, 2021 - 09:30 AM EST at Volkswagen Arena
The worst for RB Leipzig was to host a wounded version of Borussia Dortmund who had recovered Erling Haaland, that had time to work with the new manager, having the eagerness to climb back in the table. It was the 2nd defeat of the season for RB Leipzig, but the clash against Wolfsburg will be a different story: Wolfsburg are a decent team that needs an opponent like Leipzig to be unfocused. Which is not normally what Julian Nagelsmann is letting happen, and definitely not what should we expect considering their will to fix the defeat.
Dortmund vs. Mainz
Saturday, January 16, 2021 - 09:30 AM EST at Signal Iduna Park
Finding themselves -5 from the top is probably a gift that Dortmund weren't expecting. We'll see if it will be enough to really compete for the Bundesliga title, but this is just giving a super boost of confidence to a recovering side.
Mainz aren't definitely a side that could dream to put up a decent performance against Dortmund. In a different moment, the odds on Dortmund to win with -1.5 handicap vs. Mainz wouldn't be the same generous. Borussia not only won in Leipzig, but they started strong already in the 1st half, which is unusual.
