On the other hand, LSU, despite the season-opening loss, rebounded strongly, winning nine of its next 11 games before facing a 20-point loss to eventual national champion Georgia in the SEC Championship. The Tigers concluded their successful first season under head coach Brian Kelly with a resounding 65-7 victory over Purdue in the Citrus Bowl, coincidentally, at the same venue where their game against Florida State will take place.
