Trading the glamourous, plush boroughs of Hollywood for the stately, noble boroughs of the nation’s capital isn’t a move to take lightly, but a couple of celebrities have done it – Ronald Raegan and Donald Trump. So, it’s no surprise to discover that top sportsbooks are weighing in on a similar circumstance with appropriately glittering betting odds to occur in 2024. However, it’s clear, in some cases, that bookies are having a little bit of fun with it and are posting outlandish “potential candidates” alongside tongue-in-cheek odds that have about as much chance of cashing as this article has to win a Pulitzer Prize.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Oprah Winfrey and Megan Markle represent some of the more noteworthy celebrities for which bookies have rolled out odds markets (see the complete betting market listed below). They’re A-listers with significant social media clout and they have at some point or other made deliberately direct or indirect political overtures towards the White House.
Indeed, The Rock hinted, when queried about his presidential ambitions in February by USA Today, that he actually might consider running for president if the support from Americans for his candidacy were significant.
“I do have that goal to unite our country and I also feel that if this is what the people want, then I will do that,” said the WWE athlete-turned-actor.
A poll released recently revealed that 46% of Americans would support Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as President. To which the Hollywood superstar responded on social media with the following response.
“I don’t think our Founding Fathers EVER envisioned a six-four, bald, tattooed, half-Black, half-Samoan, tequila drinking, pick-up truck driving, fanny pack wearing guy joining their club – but if it ever happens it’d be my honor to serve you, the people”, Johnson tweeted.
The poll was carried out with over 30,000 voters apparently. So, to get almost 50% support underscores just how widely loved and supported The Rock is across the country.
Oprah Winfrey, Megan Markle, LeBron James, Tom Hanks, and others were also included in this poll, but “The Rock” emerged a country mile ahead of the field. Thus, he’s dubbed one of the top bets at +1000 with BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review) to run for president in 2024.
Megan Markle, LeBron James and Tom Hanks are all priced modestly at +4000 to take a crack at the next presidential race, while Oprah Winfrey is a bit of an outlier priced at +5000.
On the flipside, bookies have gone a bit more ridiculous too by serving up outmoded celebs such as Scott Baio, Henry Winkler and Rosie O’Donnell as alternative bets — albeit longshot bets with political odds that run from +5000 to +10000. Nobody can take this triplet seriously though.
Trump Family Trumps Betting Market
As with most things electoral, the Trump family on the whole leads this market as they attempt to reclaim the White House in four years.
According to BetOnline, Donald Trump Sr. is the top bet at +125 as the most likely to announce a run in four years. He’s followed by his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., and eldest daughter, Ivanka Trump, in the running (both are priced at +400 respectively) to round out the Trump family affair.
President Joe Biden assumed the presidency in January of this year, taking over the seat of power after the record-breaking 2020 US Elections went his way. Trump never did concede defeat to Biden and the Democrats, nor did he even attend his counterpart’s inauguration as is customary. Nevertheless, he was forced to ebb his way out of the White House as a result of his loss.
It’s no secret that Trump would love to return for a second term in office. He’s teased his supporters with the idea ever since he left the White House, stopping just short of announcing his intentions. That’s a cunning plan if ever there was one to draw attention and keep the conversation going in perpetual ambiguity with everyone pondering the million dollar question: Will he or won’t he run?
