The Betting public is willing to give the Tampa Bay Lightning one more chance to make a postseason run but expert handicapper Dana Lane explains why this season is over for the Lightning.

Tonight, we head to Joe Louis Arena where the Tampa Bay Lightning attempt to hold on to their slim playoff hopes against the Detroit Red Wings starting at 7:30 ET/4:30 PT. It’s clear to the Wings that their 25-year playoff streak is officially coming to an end but it’s safe to say they haven’t quit as they’ve won three of their last four games.

I’m not sure what the betting public has seen to make them rush to the window to bet the Lightning but 74% of all tickets written are on the ‘Bolts at a small price. True, they have played well over the last month but they still are not as disciplined as I’d like.  Tampa has been shorthanded 41 times over their last 14 games, for an average of almost three times a game, giving up nine goals, or as much as the Colorado Avalanche.

The best ‘under’ number we can find at SBR approved Sportsbooks is even money at Bovada, who is also offering up to $250 on new deposits.

The Tampa Bay Lightning are just three points behind the Boston Bruins for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with a game in hand but I go back to Tuesday when the Lightning faced the Arizona Coyotes after dropping games to the Washington Capitals and Toronto Maple Leafs.

This was a game the Lightning desperately needed against a team that is one of the league’s worst.  Tampa dropped that game 5-3 prompting me to declare that the Bolts will not make the playoffs.  I will not financially back a team that can’t get self-motivated to beat the Coyotes.  My followers won’t get fooled tonight as the Wings look like another easy opponent for a team that is supposed to be playoff inspired.

From the Detroit perspective, they are aware they won’t join the postseason but they’re not showing any signs of giving up.  Tuesday they went into the Bell Centre and beat the Atlantic leading Montreal Canadiens in overtime showing the amount of guts that I would have expected out of Jon Cooper’s team.

Let’s back the Wings tonight against the Lightning who have dropped 16 of their last 23 games after a win.
