When Betting Hockey, Look For Home/Road Differentials

Whether you are a novice when it comes to betting hockey or a seasoned pro, you are or should always be looking for edges. While they can come and go, if you are attuned, success could follow.

When breaking down the NHL odds, one of my favorite things to do once a week is go through the standings and look for teams that have a real home/road dichotomy. What this points towards for those of us making NHL picks is a true picture of the team and gives a more specific look at a club.

Vegas, for example, got off to an unprecedented start for an expansion team. While the Golden Knights are still playing good hockey as we approach the quarter pole of the season, we are beginning to see stress marks on the road (4-6 SU as of Nov. 15) compared to at home where they are 7-1 SU. Here are other teams that fit this mode at the current time.

Ottawa: 4-7 SU Home / 4-1 SU Road

Pittsburgh: 6-1 Home / 4-9 Road

Dallas: 6-2 Home / 3-7 Road

Vancouver: 3-6 Home / 6-3 Road

Of course, these records can change as the season moves along, but other teams will emerge in Play for or Against situations and if you are willing to put in a little extra effort, that wagering account will show the positive results.
