Vancouver Canucks vs. Los Angeles Kings

The Vancouver Canucks are one of the surprises in the first week of the NHL season as they are off to a perfect 4-0 start and will look to remain unblemished as they take on the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday night. Vancouver has been winning games with timely scoring largely from their very explosive top line of Daniel and Henrik Sedin along with Loui Eriksson as that line has a combined 9 points so far while Brandon Sutter has provided some much needed secondary scoring for the Canucks with 4 points in as many games.

The Canucks have played solid defense including a solid PK which has allowed just 1 power play goal in 12 opportunities this season and they have gotten very strong goaltending early in the season from Jacob Markstrom who has a 3-0 record and sub 2.00 GAA in his three starts this season. On the flip side, the Los Angeles Kings are not the kind of team I trust with this north of -150 price tag across the board considering their goaltending without injured #1 goalie Jonathan Quick is weak and marginal at best. Peter Budaj and Jeff Zatkoff are not #1 goaltender material but they are forced to go with both of them for the time being until Quick returns. To put it in perspective, Los Angeles got their first win of the season against the Dallas Stars on Thursday night winning 4-3 in OT but they outshot Dallas 39-20 and dominated the game yet still were life and death to win because of their shaky goaltending situation.

That is enough right there to show me that LA needs to play a near-perfect game to have a chance to win right now. That is a lot to ask any team as a significant favorite and I expect Vancouver to be a live underdog in this one making the Canucks worthy of a recommendation as my Play Of The Day in the NHL.
