It’s great to be back after three days off. Time to pick up where we left off as we head towards the midway point of the 2017-18 season.

Tonight, our winner comes from Beantown as the Ottawa Senators try to start a positive trend to their season with a road victory against the Bruins. Ranked 3rd in my power rankings, the Bruins are hanging on to the 3rd spot in the Atlantic. Good news for the Bruins is there doesn’t seem to be a real challenge from the teams behind them. Games like this one have a tendency to dull intensity, especially with a trip to Washington on deck tomorrow night. According to the SBR Odds page, wagers on the OVER have started to trickle in but there is still no definitive line pattern. We still can find an acceptable price of -108 (UNDER) at Pinnacle but at Bovada the number is much different, -120 (UNDER). Make sure to always shop for the best number, your bankroll will thank you at the end of the season.

As of late, the Bruins have been reliable defensively. In their four-game winning streak Bruce Cassidy’s team has allowed just four goals and in a loss to the Rangers, Bruce Cassidy’s team allowed just 2 regulation goals before allowing a third in overtime. You can make the argument that there will be some extra motivation against the team that knocked them out of last year’s playoffs. In the Senators last 10 games they have been shutout five times. Not exactly the ingredients that makes an argument for the OVER.

Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask is in the middle of an 8-0-1 streak leading him being named the NHL’s number one star last week. He’s getting tremendous play in front of him from Zdeno Chara who is benefitting from his partnership with rookie sensation Charlie McAvoy. Finally, Chara doesn’t have to worry that part of his responsibility includes covering for his defensive partner. Rask owns an 8-7-4 record against Ottawa with 2.34 goals against average and a .921 save percentage.

The vibe in Ottawa can’t be good right now after finding just 3 wins in their last 18 games. In addition, GM Pierre Dorian pulled the trigger on a trade for Matt Duchene which hasn’t worked out. Kyle Turris was sent to Nashville and there are persistent rumors that the Senators are willing to deal Captain Erik Karlsson. I have a hard time envisioning that all this mess will equate into goals.

Ottawa is dealing with injuries to top it off. In their last game against Florida, the Senators had eight total players unavailable.

This game is going UNDER the total for our NHL picks.
