Our NHL consultant shares his top totals selections of the day in this betting preview article. Read what he has to say pertaining to the totals in the games between Detroit/Florida & Boston/Ottawa.
Red Wings vs. Panthers
The Panthers will host the Red Wings on Thursday at 7:35 PM ET in Sunrise Florida. According to the NHL betting odds at BetOnline, the posted total in this game is 5.0. This will be the fourth meeting of the season between these Eastern Conference teams, and none of the first three stayed under the total.
The Detroit Red Wings have seen five of their last six games go over the total. During that time they’ve allowed five goals or more on two separate occasions, and have also scored exactly five goals twice. Detroit has gone over the total in their previous four games on the road, and there was an average of 7.5 goals combined scored per contest.
The Florida Panthers have seen each of their previous three, and five of their last six games at home go over the total. They’ve averaged a robust 3.7 goals scored, and allowed 3.0 goals per game during that span.

Bruins vs. Senators
The Ottawa Senators will host the Boston Bruins on Thursday in an Atlantic Division battle at 7:35 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at Bookmaker, the posted total in this game is 5.0. This will be the fifth meeting of the season between these clubs, and none of the last three has gone over the total.
The Boston Bruins haven’t seen any of their previous five games go over the total. During that stretch they’ve allowed two goals or less in each of those games. Tuukka Rask is listed as the probable starter in goal, and he’s been nothing short of spectacular in his last four starts, posting an off the charts .966 save percentage.
As for my NHL Pick the Ottawa Senators have gone under the total in their last three, and six of their previous eight games. The Senators have allowed two goals or less in each of their previous four. The big story in Ottawa has been the play of rookie goaltender Andrew Hammond. He’s been sensational since being called up from the AHL Binghamton Senators. In twelve starts for Ottawa, Hammond has compiled a sensational .956 save percentage, and only three of games have gone over the total.
Free NHL Pick: Play on Boston and Ottawa to go Over the total of 5.0 at Bookmaker.
