The Chicago Blackhawks have the most points in the Western Conference and are red-hot, but read why the host Winnipeg Jets will get the better of this Central Division showdown as NHL betting underdogs on Tuesday night.

2016-17 NHL Selection Record: 18-15 (+11.37 units)

Another easy winner Monday as the New York Islanders and Tampa Bay Lightning cashed our 'under' ticket on NHL odds 4-0. We're on an underdog winner tonight as the Winnipeg Jets are hosting the Chicago Blackhawks in a Central Division matchup.

First, let's give an update on NHL betting trends with a focus on totals. I don't bet a lot of NHL totals, but when I do I hammer specific plays because this is a sport where SBR's best sportsbooks tend to get lazy.  They typically stay in the 5-5.5 range because that's a comfort zone.  Very rarely do we see a 4.5 or 6 even though the game might warrant that kind of line.  Books are worried to be exposed, but few actually watch enough hockey to include their opinion in the number. That's where the advantage comes in.  Also Tuesday, we see the Montreal Canadiens and Florida Panthers' total sitting at 5 (-110).

This game is a chance to make a little money for the book, but oddsmakers rather play it safe setting the number at 5.  When Carey Price is involved against any netminder of quality you could make a case for a 4.5 shaded to the 'over.'  This matchup has 'under' written all over it so you would make the 'over' price -120 and watch all the tickets roll in on the 'over' on NHL picks.

Since the books are not willing to do that, it benefits the player as we get a total of 5, meaning that Montreal and Florida would have to score six goals to beat us.  Montreal has only allowed 10 goals in 12 games at the Bell Centre and only once did the Habs give up more than two.  This means you're banking on Montreal beating Roberto Luongo four times.  Not likely for a Canadiens team that is next to last in shots (27.8) against a Panthers team tremendous in its defensive zone.  Not our game of the night, but you can obviously see where the value is.  Take advantage of books not paying attention.

Tonight we're rolling with the Jets at home as a +114 underdog against the Blackhawks. Winnipeg has been as consistent as any team in the league om picking up 18 points in 17 games and also points in four straight. They never seem to take a night off. The public will be all over the Blackhawks, driving the price up, so wait as long as you can to get the best number.

Even though this is a division game, Chicago may not be as hyped for it after Sunday beating Montreal, the NHL's perceived best team.  The crowd at the MTS Centre will be loud and proud as Winnipeg gets this one.
