Our NHL consultant discusses his two top totals for Wednesday in this betting preview article. He’ll be honing in on the games between Vancouver/Chicago and Washington/San Jose.

Vancouver Canucks vs. Chicago Blackhawks 8:05 PM ET
Total: 5.0
The Vancouver Canucks enter tonight having seen seven of their previous nine road games go under the total posted on the NHL odds board. The Canucks will be facing an opponent (Chicago) tonight with a winning percentage of .611 on the season. Vancouver has gone under the total in eight of nine games this season when playing against a team with a winning percentage of .600 to .750.

Tonight will be the Chicago Blackhawks third game during the last four days, and they’ve gone under the total in eleven of fourteen games this season, when cast into that exact scenario. Chicago has met Vancouver once this season, and was a 4-1 loser on the road. The Blackhawks have gone under the total in thirteen of fourteen games this season when playing with same season revenge. Corey Crawford is expected to get the nod in goal tonight for Chicago, and he’s compiled a stellar .938 save percentage in his last four starts. The Hawks have seen just 35.2% of their games this season go over the total.

Betting System
Any home team (Chicago) playing with same season revenge stemming from a road loss by three goals or more, and has a winning percentage of .600 to .700, versus an opponent (Vancouver/.588) with a winning percentage of .510 to .600, has seen that home team go under the total in 52 of those 75-games (69.3%) since 1997.

Washington Capitals vs. San Jose Sharks 10:35 PM ET
Total: 5.5
The Washington Capitals enter tonight’s game having gone under the total in the last four, and six of their previous seven games. Braden Holtby is once again slated to be in goal for the Capitals, and he’s been sizzling hot of late. Holtby has an excellent .962 save percentage in his last five starts, and has posted two shutouts during that five game span. The Capitals have gone over the total in only 33.3% of their road games this season when Holtby is their starting goaltender.

Tonight will be the sixth game in the last ten days for the San Jose Sharks, and they’ve seen 21 of 30-games go under the total during the past two seasons, when thrust into that precise situation. The Sharks will be facing an opponent (Washington) tonight that average 3.0 goals per game. San Jose has gone under the total in thirteen of nineteen games this season, when facing a team that averages 2.85 or more goals per game.

Final Analysis
Scoring goals certainly hasn’t been an issue for the Sharks in recent games. However, they will be facing arguably the hottest goaltender in the NHL right now, and have had to endure a recent grueling schedule. My lean in this game is toward a low scoring affair, and my NHL Picks  for Wednesday will be indicative of just that.

NHL Picks: Washington and San Jose to go Under 5.5 at The Greek.
