Our NHL consultant previews two games which he deems to be the top two totals selections of the night. Take the time to read this revealing NHL betting preview article and find out he's free picks.
Playing in the Eye of the Hurricane
The Carolina Hurricanes host the red-hot Ottawa Senators on Tuesday at 7:05 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at Pinnacle, the posted total in this game is 5.0. Carolina has defeated Ottawa in both encounters this season by scores of 3-2 and 6-3. Those games each took place at the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa.
The Ottawa Senators are sizzling hot right, evidenced by them going 11-2 against the money line in their previous thirteen games. Much of their recent success has been derived from some stellar goaltending by rookie Andrew Hammond, and also terrific play in their own zone. Hammond has seen just two of his last eleven starts go over the total, posting an excellent .955 save percentage, and has earned two shutouts in those outings.
Goals are Scarce in Raleigh
Although the Carolina Hurricanes have been scoring goals with regularity of late, they still are averaging only 2.4 goals per game this season. The Hurricanes have also gone over the total in just seven of their thirty-three games (21.2%) at home during the 2014-2015 NHL campaign. Carolina has gone under the total in all eleven games at home this season when facing a starting goaltender with a .915 or better save percentage.
NHL Pick: Play on Ottawa/Carolina to go Under the total of 5.0. at Bookmaker.
Wild in “The Music City”
The Nashville Predators will play host to the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday at 8:05 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at 5Dimes, the total in this game is posted at 5.0. This will be the fourth meeting of the season between these Central Division rivals, and two the first three went over the total.
Superb Goaltending Matchup
Tonight’s game will pit two of the best goaltenders in the Western Conference against each other.
Minnesota’s Devan Dubnyk has been nothing short of spectacular since coming over in a trade from Phoenix earlier this season. This will be start number forty-five of the year for Dubnyk. He’s compiled a terrific .929 save percentage, and has posted five shutouts.
Pekka Rinne may be the most underrated goaltender in the NHL. The lack of attention given to Rinne is due in large part to not playing in a hockey hotbed. However, he’s certainly appreciated and Nashville where he’s posted a stellar .926 save percentage in fifty-five starts this season, and has gone 37-18 in those outings.
Both Teams favor Low Scores
The Minnesota Wild have seen just one of their previous eight games go over the total. The Wild have held opponents to two goals or less in twelve of their previous thirteen games.
The Nashville Predators have gone under the total in four of the last five, and six of their previous eight games. They’ve scored two goals or less in each of the last five, and seven of their previous eight contests.
This game looks to be a low scoring affair, and for that reason I’m going to use the total for of one of my NHL picks on Tuesday.
NHL Pick: Play on Minnesota and Nashville to go Under the total of 5.0 at 5Dimes.
