Our NHL consultant has two totals on Sunday’s card that he absolutely loves. His betting preview article covers the totals in the games between Tampa Bay/Florida and Anaheim/Dallas.
NHL Battle of Sunshine State Teams on Sunday
The Florida Panthers will host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday at 5:05 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at 5Dimes, the total in this contest is 5.5. This will be the second meeting of the season between these teams, and Tampa Bay was a 3-2 winner on home ice earlier in the year. Since the start of last season, these teams have seen four of their five head-to-head encounters go over the total, so we're keeping this in mind as we break down our O/U NHL pick for this matchup.
The Tampa Bay Lightning has been one of the more dynamic offensive teams during the 2014-2015 NHL campaign. Tampa is averaging 3.3 goals per game for the year, and has scored four goals in each of their previous four contests. Ben Bishop is slated to be in goal today for the Lightning, and fourteen of his eighteen starts (71.4%) on the road have gone over the total while he posted a below average .895 save percentage in those outings. As a matter of fact, the Lightning has gone over the total in twenty-two of their thirty-three games (66.7%) on the road this season.
Luongo out and Montoya in for Panthers
The Florida Panthers snapped a four game losing streak with a 5-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday. Roberto Luongo was in goal for that win, and he’ll receive a much needed day off on Sunday. Luongo be replaced by backup Al Montoya who will be making just his twelfth start of the season. Montoya has seen just three of his first eleven starts stay under the total, and has compiled a less than impressive .893 save percentage in doing so.
