Our NHL betting analyst discloses his two best totals selections on Thursday. Join us to read his revealing analysis regarding the totals in the games between Vancouver/Buffalo and St. Louis/Winnipeg.
Vancouver Canucks vs. Buffalo Sabres
Canucks at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo
The Buffalo Sabres will entertain the Vancouver Canucks tonight at 7:05 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at Pinnacle, the total in this contest is 5.0.
No Lack of Confidence
The Vancouver Canucks have gone under the total in each of their last two games, and allowed just one goal combined in those contests. Eddie Lack has been terrific since having to replace Ryan Miller early in the first period of the Canucks 4-0 road win over the Islanders. He followed that up with brilliant performance during a 2-1 win at Boston in the Canucks previous game. Lack has posted a stellar .942 save percentage during his last six appearances.
Red-Hot Goaltending for Buffalo
Michael Neuvirth has seized the opportunity to be the #1 goaltender of the future for the Buffalo Sabres. Since Jonas Enroth was traded to Dallas, Since that trade Neuvirth has started in all six games for the Sabres, compiling an excellent .952 save percentage, facing an average of 38.5 shots on goal per outing, and five of the six went under the total. Buffalo’s injury list continues to grow after losing three forwards in a 4-2 win at Columbus in their previous game. Those injuries included their top two scorers Tyler Ennis and Zemgus Girgensons, and also another key player in Marcus Foligno. The Sabres have gone under the total in their last seven games at home, and played on the low side of the ledger in nine of the last ten overall. Buffalo is dead last in the NHL averaging a pathetic 1.8 goals per game this season, and they’ve scored one goal or less in fourteen of their last twenty-four overall.
St. Louis Blues vs. Winnipeg Jets
Jets playing the Blues
The Winnipeg Jets will host the St. Louis Blues on Thursday at 8:05 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at 5Dimes, the total in this contest is 5.5.
Blues Totals Update
The St. Louis Blues have gone over the total in each of their previous three games, and have allowed four goals or more in three of the last four. The Blues power play on the road has been superb during the 2014-2015 NHL campaign, converting on 27.0% of their man advantage opportunities. St. Louis has seen just two of their previous ten games on the road go over the total.
Jets flying over the Number
The Winnipeg Jets have seen their last five games all go over the total, and there was an average of 7.4 goals combined scored per contest. As a matter of fact, the Jets have gone under the total just six times during their previous twenty-nine games (20.7%). Michael Hutchinson will be in goal for the Jets this evening, and he’s seen each of his previous four starts go over the total while compiling a poor .875 save percentage. Hutchinson has allowed four goals or more in six of his previous nine starts.
This game has all the ear marks of a high scoring contest, and my NHL picks on Thursday will be reflective of just that.
