It’s a busy night in the NHL with 11 games on the card. We’ve separated the Buffalo-Montreal preview in its own article and below we’ve highlighted three other picks of the night.

Arizona Coyotes vs. Columbus Blue Jackets
Blue Jackets -140
The Arizona Coyotes have been giving up goals in bunches this season as they rank near the bottom of the league at 3.32 non-shootout goals per game. That number was much worse in the month of January as they gave up 3.75 per outing. The good news is they’ll be facing a team who should be equally inept between the pipes as the Blue Jackets are forced to live with backup Curtis McElhinney while Sergei Bobrovsky is out. McElhinney has allowed three goals in three straight starts. The Blue Jackets were one of the league’s worst defensive teams last month, giving up 3.15 goals per game (sixth-worst). As a result, the average score in their games was 5.53 and the average score in Coyotes games was 6.00 goals per game.

These two teams have gone over the number in four of the last six meetings and we’ll look for more of the same in this spot. Take the over with your NHL picks.

Colorado Avalanche vs. Dallas Stars
Stars -145
The Avalanche aren’t exactly the most attractive play here as they’ve lost three straight on the road and five of six, but they look like a solid choice here based on the value. The Stars opened as a -145 favorite acording to NHL odds and that’s a bit too high. While the Avs struggle on the road (8-17), it’s not as if the Stars are a great home team (11-15). On top of that, the Avs should have a goaltending edge with Semyon Varlamov in net as he’s won five straight starts against Dallas. He’s posted a .936 save percentage in that span. As for the Stars Kari Lehtonen, he posted an .895 save percentage in January along with a 3.26 GAA. Take a shot with the Avs as a road dog here.

Winnipeg Jets vs. Vancouver Canucks
Canucks -155
The Winnipeg Jets dropped another contest on Monday night, which now extended their losing streak to four games. Every single one of those games has gone over as their goaltending has gone completely into the tank. They’ve allowed 20 goals in their last four games. Ondrej Pavelec has lost five of his last seven starts while posting a GAA of 3.36. As for Michael Hutchinson, he was yanked last night and has now given up 13 goals in his last three outings. The Canucks are also having some issues slowing teams down as goaltender Ryan Miller has allowed 14 goals in his last four starts (lost three of them).

Given how the goaltending has been on both sides, it doesn’t make sense that we see such a low total. Take the over with your NHL picks in this one.
